Lewis (Lou) Rogers Ussery, 72, of Stillwater died Monday, April 5, 2010, at his home. A memorial service with the Reverend Tim Walker conducting is scheduled Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Stillwater. Private graveside services will be Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.
Lou was born Sept. 8, 1937, in Campbellsville, TN, to Odell and Lucille Ussery. He was married to Nancy Waddell in Ponca City, OK, on June 30, 1962.
Lou joined the U.S. Navy after high school and served 20 years before retiring in 1976 as Master Chief Petty Officer. He and his wife moved to Stillwater, where he served as vice president and general manager of Brown Distributing Company until 1998. From 1998 to 2005, Lou had his own custom painting business in the Stillwater area.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Stillwater and served on the church Finance Committee. Family and friends knew Lou as a true Southern gentleman. He enjoyed sports and caring for his lawn.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Franklin Ussery and Charles Ussery.
Friends may call between 6 and 8 p.m. Wednesday at Strode Funeral Home.
Lou is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home; a daughter, Amy Pino and her husband, Kevin, of Tulsa; a brother, Jimmy Ussery, of Campbellsville, TN; and three sisters, Mary (Fanny) Hickman of Strongsville, OH, Faye DeVault of Nashville, TN, and Sue Gibson of Columbia, TN.
