Obituary for Alta Bernice Youngker
Alta Bernice Youngker peacefully passed away during the early morning hours on October 1, 2014 at the home of her son. It was very different from her arrival on this earth on November 21, 1912 during a howling snow storm at the home of her parents, Lee O. and Blanche M. Bickford located in far northern Lincoln County, Oklahoma.
Alta attended school in that area until her freshman year when she was part of the class of 1929 at District 2, Coyle High School. She made many lifelong friends and was involved in many of her class activities, graduating on May 10, 1929.
She met and married the love of her life for fifty one years, Lorin Youngker. They were married on September 18, 1929. Together they raised four sons and two daughters. Alta actively worked with Lorin on their farm raising wheat, alfalfa and cattle. As her family grew up and left the home she found time to become involved in several social, political and educational organizations. She also became employed at the Oklahoma State University Student Union and later with T.G. & Y. After the death of her husband in 1980 she continued to live alone on the family’s 160 acres near Goodnight, Oklahoma, devoting her full energy to successfully developing that farm. Finally, in her late nineties, finding that she was unable to maintain her own health and the farm, Alta agreed to share time with her two daughters in Perkins in retirement. Because of her deep love for farm life, she quickly agreed, when the offer was made to her, to live with her youngest son’s family on their farm where she could observe the daily rural life she so much enjoyed.
She is survived by all six of her children; Joe L. Youngker (Joyce), Edmond, Oklahoma, Jesse D. Youngker (Alice), Coppell, Texas, Billy F. Youngker (Betty), Tryon, Oklahoma, Marilyn Price (Kenneth), Perkins, Oklahoma, Joyce Robbins, Perkins, Oklahoma and Lyle D. Youngker (Vickie), Perkins, Oklahoma.
She is survived by 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son-in-law Russell Robbins and a step-grandson Perry Price.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons Mark Youngker, Randal Youngker, Bret Clarke, Bart Clarke, Bruce Robbins and Rylee Youngker; Honorary Pallbearer; Blakely Youngker.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Olivet Cemetery near Goodnight, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends donations in her name are given to the Judith Karman Hospice Foundation; P.O. Box 818, Stillwater, OK 74076. The family would not have had the additional quality time with her before God called her home had it not have been for their loving devotion to her care.
