Edith Hufstedler Noell, 91, died on April 24, 2015 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Her memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Reverend Michael Chaffin will be officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Edith was born on January 24, 1924 to Eli Virgil and Iva Dell (Lawler) Hufstedler in Gorman, Texas. She graduated from W.H. Adamson High School in Dallas, Texas. Edith majored in Speech and Drama at Southern Methodist University, where she was also president of Mortar Board and received the Decima Award for outstanding senior woman graduate. She married Millard Davis Noell on November 5, 1954 in Dallas. After her sons entered elementary school, Edith earned her master’s degree in Speech Therapy from SMU. She served as a speech pathologist in the Garland (Texas) Public Schools and Notre Dame Special School (in the Dallas area), where she worked with children having developmental disabilities. She retired in 1985, and in 1999 Millard and Edith moved to Stillwater.
She was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Dallas and in Stillwater. She loved her family, gardening, cooking, sewing, attending live theater, traveling to other parts of the country, making gifts, and serving others.
She is survived by Millard, her devoted husband for over 60 years, of Stillwater; her son Edd and his wife Nancy of Santa Barbara, CA; her son Alan and his wife Liz of Stillwater; six grandchildren and two spouses of grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Rebecca Landgraf of Magnolia, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
