William Harold Updegrove went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2015 at Stillwater Medical Center. His memorial service will be at a later date. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was a resident of the Green Valley Home in Perry, Oklahoma for several years.
Harold was 73 years old. He was born in Webb City, Missouri on February 11, 1942. As a teenager Harold traveled the country with his father tuning pianos. Harold’s mother was a teacher.
Harold was a man of many hobbies. He was an accomplished musician and song writer. He also mastered the guitar, keyboards, French harp. He even had a record produced. He played with many bands and held many jam sessions. He was also an outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing and archery.
He also spent many hours playing music with his special friend Hazel Colbert. The Colbert’s considered him to be a member of the family and enjoyed many holidays and celebrations with him.
Harold was a member of the Church of Christ and had been an Ordained Minister. Harold worked for the Stillwater School System for 31 years. He also had worked for OSU. He served as Head Maintenance at Will Rogers Schools. He enjoyed working with all his young helpers and had got along great with all the teachers. He retired at age 51 and enjoyed playing music and pursuing his numerous hobbies until his illness slowed him down. He enjoyed playing music at this church and taking trips to Texas. Harold was a decedent of Pawnee Bill.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his wife Ruby Wyant; and one stepson Roy Parmley.
He is survived by his step children Gene Parmley; Dorothy Parmley and William Parmley.
It was Harold’s final wish to be cremated and his ashes will be buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held in the fall.
