Obituary for Joseph Matthew Foster

Joseph Matthew Foster
Matt Foster peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 in his home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2:00pm at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 524 North Stallard in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Matt was born in Stillwater on August 4, 1980 to Bart and Gayla Wagner Foster. He attended Stillwater Public Schools from kindergarten through high school. He was a Frontier Rotary Varsity Scholar all 3 years of high school. He played baseball on several local teams with many friends from childhood through high school and also played football for the Stillwater Jr. High and High School teams.
He attended Oklahoma State University where he became a University Scholar and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. After graduating he did residential construction, following in the footsteps of his late grandfather Bart Foster, who built many public buildings in Stillwater. Matt’s first job using his finance degree was as a banker at Citizen’s Bank of Edmond, later moving to be a loan officer at Citizen’s State Bank of Stillwater. Eventually Matt changed to The Bank NA of Stillwater as a loan officer. His last job was with the Prime Lending Regional Office in Stillwater. While he served in these positions he also strongly supported the Stillwater community in several capacities: CASA as a board member, Stillwater Rotary, Stillwater Chamber of Commerce and other organizations.

Matt was also a talented woodworker, designing and creating pieces of furniture for family and friends. He was meticulous, he always said that he “studied each piece of wood to let the grain guide how he cut and carved it”. He also enjoyed fishing and boating with family and friends and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved music and spent a lot of time playing his guitar.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Scotty and Jacob, his grandparents Jon & Betty Wagner and Bart and Helen Foster. He is survived by his parents Bart and Gayla Foster, his daughter Reece Marion Foster, whose mother is Cydney Francis Foster, Aunts & Uncles: Jan Wagner Creveling and husband Dwight, Mark Wagner and wife Paula, and many cousins living in Colorado and New York City. He shared life with and loved many friends in Stillwater and beyond. He will be truly missed.

The family expresses their thanks to the Stillwater emergency response personnel, the Payne Couny Sheriff”s Department and canine unit. We appreciate your kindness and professionalism.
