Obituary for Philip Alan Ventris

Philip Alan Ventris
Philip Alan Ventris was born on August 31st, 1958 and passed away on October 30th, 2016, in his home in Perkins, Oklahoma. A memorial service to remember Philip’s life will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater with Pastors Roger Shaw and Wade Longan co-officiating.
Philip was the beloved son of David Lee Ventris and Carolyn Hawkins; loving husband to Jeanie Ventris of Perkins; brother and best friend of Ricky Ventris, and his wife Barbara, of Perkins, Billy Ventris of Oklahoma City, Steve Ventris, of Seattle, Washington, Leah Speer, of Cushing, and Keith Findley & wife Tammy, of Agra. Father to Dusty Guinn and wife Sharon, of Stillwater; Angelia Ventris, of Cushing, Alan Ventris, of Yukon, and Corey Ventris and wife Ashley, of Ball, Louisiana, and the Grandfather of Michael and Kenzie Oefelein, Mikayla, Dylan and Destiny Vaverka, Morgan and Conner Ventris, Duncan, Ryann and Miles Ventris, Hannah, CJ, and TW Longan, Atley, Gavin, Peyton and Chantry Cook, Alyssia and Corbin Guinn, one great grandchild Owen Oefelein, and one on the way.
Philip was born in Houston, Texas, but moved to Oklahoma at a young age and spent most of his childhood on dairy farms in the Coyle and Ripley areas, where his father worked.

Philip attended Ripley High School, where he played basketball and baseball. There, Philip’s infectious smile and great sense of humor won over his classmates and made him many lifelong friends.
Philip wed his love, Jeanie Chace, on January 16, 1987. They loved one another and kept each other’s spirits high in the most trying times. Jeanie affectionately remembers Philip as her first true love.
After high school, Philip joined the Oklahoma National Guard, which he served with for thirteen and a half years. During his time in the Guard, he attended jump school in Fort Benning, Georgia… After his time in the Guard, he went into the trucking industry, getting his start at Pepsi Co. in Stillwater, Ok. From there, he spent time in the oil field with various companies as a derrick hand and a driller. His true passion though, was long haul truck driving. He loved being on the road and seeing the sights, taking pictures, and communicating with his fellow truckers.
In August of 2015, Philip was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. As hard as the diagnosis was on his family, his spirit never once changed. He was always a joy to be around, making time for friends and family despite being in tremendous amounts of pain, and maintained that “Ventris” brand of humor.

Philip made many friends in his travels and will be remembered for many things. Among those, his facetious sense of humor, incredible work ethic, and the unimaginable generosity that he put on display so many times. He was truly a one of a kind man.
Philip was a member of Agra First Baptist Church, where he was baptized on September 11th. He devoted his life to his Lord and Savior, and trusted his God, "Whichever way this goes, I'm not even worried about it, I now know Jesus Christ as my lord and savior, so whatever he decides for my staying here or going to be with him is fine by me."

Philip was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Philip and Nettie Ventris, and Nick and Lola Hawkins, as well as his mother Carolyn Hawkins, brother David Ventris, and sister-in-law, Donna Silkwood.
He is survived by all of his children and grandchildren, four brothers, one sister, step mother, mother in law, numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
