A long-time resident of Stillwater for over 75 years, our mom, Evelyn Marie Copley, 94, passed away Nov. 2, 2016.
Born Jan. 16, 1922, in Oklahoma City to John Henry and Janette Hulda (Schuler) Nitzel, she was the youngest of two children. She graduated with honors from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City and then went to Oklahoma A&M graduating with a BS in Home Economics. She married Isaiah Franklin Copley on Dec. 8, 1945 in Stillwater and assisted her husband Isaiah in his businesses: long-time owner of Copley Cycle Store (Bicycle Shop), rented bicycles to college students and as a landlord.
Mom attended Stillwater First United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Roundtable class and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Stillwater Gem & Mineral Society and the YMCA, being very involved with Silver Sneakers. Through the years, she was a Girl Scout Leader and also a Teacher’s Aide.
She is survived by children, Doris (Dick) Renneke, Topeka, KS; Donald Manassas, VA; Linda (Phil) Anthony, Oklahoma City; Annette (Karl) Jones, The Colony, TX; Marsha (Bruce) Yancey, Norman; David, Stillwater; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her sisters-in-law: Beth Baker, Noble; Ida Maxwell, TX; Echo Waldby, TX; Lois Copley, Oklahoma City; Edith Schuler, Oklahoma City; brother-in-law Albert (Zella), Arizona; 30 nieces and nephews and friends too numerous to mention.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 68 years; parents; sister, Ruth; and daughter-in-law, Marion.
Mom always had a smile on her face and words of encouragement for everyone. Some of her favorite activities were reading, sewing, knitting, singing, and dancing. Mom deeply loved her family and is now home with the Lord and our Dad.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
