Jana Elaine Smith Benningfield, 50, passed from this life Saturday, March 4, 2017. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Lost Creek Methodist Church of Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jana was born in the Greenwood County Hospital on September 25, 1966 to Delmar and Raylene Smith in Eureka, Kansas.
She and her family relocated to Perkins, Oklahoma in August 1976. She graduated Perkins High School in 1985. Life provided Jana with many blessings and one of those blessings came in 1987 with the birth of her daughter Lindsey. Jana soon met the love of her life, Ron Benningfield, in 1995. They were joined as husband and wife on April 27, 1996. On October 3, 1997 Ron and Jana welcomed a son, Andrew. Jana was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother.
Jana worked for two years with the Perry Police as a dispatcher. Following her time with the Perry Police she became a dedicated employee to Oklahoma State University. She began working as an OSU Parking Clerk in 1996. She soon was promoted to Senior Clerk in 1998. Her dedication and commitment to perfection did not stop there. She was promoted through the ranks to become the Assistant Parking Director, Coordinator of the OSU Transit and Community Bus, and Director of the BOBS (Big Orange Buses) at Oklahoma State University.
Jana is survived by her parents, Delmar and Raylene Smith of Orlando; her Husband, Ron Benningfield; Daughter, Lindsey Story and husband Tyson Story of Perkins; Son, Andrew Benningfield and his Fiancé, Sarah Knight of Perkins; granddaughters, Brooke, Bailey, and Blakely of Perkins; brothers, Randy (Robin) Smith of Guthrie, Kelvin (Dawn) Smith of Perry, Eric (Teri) Smith of Perkins; sister, Stacey (Larry) Meeker of Pensacola, Florida; nephews, Dustin Smith and Tony Smith; nieces, Taylor Menke, Abbigail Smith, Jennifer Ward, and Charissa Mefford; and numerous great-nephews and nieces, relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers will include Justin Clouse, Kody Conley, Noah Smith, Connor Smith, Tony Smith, and Dustin Smith.
