David (Dave) William Robinson, 88, of Stillwater, OK, died on Monday, July 10, in Tulsa, OK, at their home in Methodist Manor. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2107 at the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma with the Rev. Mike Chaffin officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Dave was born January 4, 1929, in Oak Park, Illinois to Albert William and Marion Tabor Robinson. Dave met his wife of 64 years, Merna Jo, while attending Oklahoma A&M, where he majored in forestry and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea and then attended graduate school at North Carolina State University.
Dave worked as a research forester in Texas and Louisiana before returning to Stillwater in 1962 to join the OSU faculty in the Department of Forestry. While there, he earned a doctorate in education and went on to become a full professor. His career allowed him to engage in his two professional passions: teaching and working in the woods. “Dr. R” formed lifelong connections with his colleagues and students. Dave was also close with his church family of more than 50 years at the First United Methodist Church of Stillwater, where he taught Sunday school in the Charitus class. An OSU sports fan, Dave followed his Cowboy teams closely since his undergraduate days in the early 1950s. He was also part of a multi-generational line of loyal Cubs fans and was thrilled that he lived to see the hope of “this could be the year” finally come true.
Dave is survived by his wife Merna Jo Hart Robinson; son, Scott Robinson and his wife Paula of Denton, Texas; daughter Julie (Jules) Haster and her husband Walter of Waco, Texas; and son Jay Robinson and his wife Cathy of Tulsa, Oklahoma, along with his grandchildren Caleb, Abbey, and Graham Robinson. Dave is also survived by his brother, Mark Tabor Robinson of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; sister-in-law Jonetta Hart Cates and her husband Dale of Shawnee, OK; other loved ones, including nieces and a nephew.
Memorial contributions may be made to the “David W. and Merna Jo Robinson Undergraduate Forestry Scholarship” through the OSU Foundation at 400 South Monroe St, Stillwater, OK, 74074.
