Obituary for Mary Norrie
Mary Elizabeth “Black” Norrie, 81, passed from this earth to join her heavenly Father on August 29, 2017 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Services for her celebration of life will be conducted by Pastor Michael Cannon, 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Perkins, Ok. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mary was born to Finis Roland and Frankie “Lizzie” Beth “Connell” Black on August 3, 1936 in Jewett, TX. Mary was raised in and around Brazoria, TX and graduated from West Columbia High School. She continued her education at the Draughan Business School in Lubbock, Texas where she met the love of her life while enjoying a malt with friends at the HiDeHo Drive In. she married Ray E. Norrie August 3, 1956 beginning a 20 year journey as a military wife raising two active boys. The military life took them to far away places including Japan, New Jersey and many different stops in her home state of Texas, while her husband served three tours overseas. In 1974 when Ray retired from the Air Force they purchased the Norrie land run homestead near Stillwater. She was finally able to settle into a home without military moving boxes in the garage. In the late 90’s the road in front of their home was named Norrie Lane, she knew they were “home”.
Mary was well known for the years she worked as a sales associate for J.C. Penney’s at both the original downtown location and assisted in the relocation to the plaza. After retirement Mary served many years as a volunteer for the Stillwater Medical Center.
Mary was a proud charter member of Perkins Immanuel Baptist Church. She also enjoyed traveling with Country Roads Good Sams Club and sharing time with members of the Degree of Assurance Honor Club. Mary was a past member of Elm Grove HCE group.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents Roland and Lizzie Black; brothers J.C. Black, David Black; brothers-in-law Robert Norrie, Rex Norrie, Wally Roe and J.C. Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years Ray E. Norrie; sons Russell Norrie (Connie) of Perkins and Roger (Sue) Norrie of Enid; grandchildren Rusty Norrie of Eaton CO; Elizabeth Norrie of Washington D.C. and Erin Norrie of Alva, OK; sisters Velma Smith of Levelland, TX; Ruby (Gerald) Jordan of Leaugue City TX; brothers Edward(Lou Ann) Black of Rockdale, TX and Allen Black of Brazoria, TX; sisters-in-law Betty Roe; Geneva; NE; Betty Jo Norrie of Olympia, WA and Mary Black of Santa Fe, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Pallbearers are Richard Smith, Gordan Sebring, Frank Dollins, Floyd Hawk, Jon Bartram and Glenn Taylor.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Senior Men’s Class.
Memorial Contributions may be given to Immanuel Baptist Church.
