Kent James Robey was born on August 7, 1958 in Lawton Oklahoma. Kent was adopted at a very early age by Robert Jacob and JoAn Robey of Edmond, Oklahoma. Kent was the youngest of three children blessed to be adopted by Bob and JoAn. The Robeys lived on Waterloo Road in the same proximity of Bob’s brother and sister-in-law Dick and Helen Robey. Throughout their lifetimes, both Bob and Dick were very prominent in the quarter horse industry owning numerous champion quarter horse bloodlines. Being raised in this environment, Kent became very familiar with and adept at handling young horses. Bob and Dick helped Kent develop this natural gift that had been given to him. Kent was loving referred to as the “original Horse Whisperer” by friends and family. Kent could go out in the pasture and catch a horse when no one else could.
Bob and JoAn moved to Perkins Oklahoma in the early 70’s. Here Kent attended junior and senior high school graduating in 1976. For the remainder of Bob and JoAn’s life Kent worked on the family farm and horse ranch. Upon Bob’s death in 2011, Kent relocated to Nowata, Oklahoma to live with long time family friends Doug and Michelle Beck. He began a new chapter in his life living on the Beck Family Farm. Together with their six children, Doug and Michelle welcomed Kent into their lives where he became a beloved member of their family. Kent happily lived out the remainder of his live with the Becks until his death on September 3, 2017.
Kent’s favorite pastimes included watching movies and TV with family and friends. He also enjoyed attending auctions, farm & ranch sales, and car shows. His favorite outdoor activities included mowing lawns and pastures, operating farm equipment and helping with his family’s horse breeding operations.
Kent is preceded in death by his father and mother Bob and JoAn Robey, and his uncle Dick Robey. He is survived by his brother Bart Robey and sister Regina Robey McVay, his aunt Mrs. Helen Robey of Perkins, Ok. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 9th at 11 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 6500 S Perkins Road, Stillwater Ok.
