Obituary for Glen Harris Hartman
Glen “Lefty” Harris Hartman died peacefully at the age of 90 on November 16, 2017 in Stillwater, OK after a brief acute illness of cancer and its side effects. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at 11:00AM at the First United Methodist Church, 400 W. 7th Ave. Stillwater, OK. 74074. S
Lefty was born on June 22, 1927 in Henrietta, OK to David Warren and Lucille (Reynolds) Hartman. He married Olga Lee Swim on April 9, 1948 in Cushing, OK.
In 1944, he left high school early to enlist in the Marine Corps to help with the war efforts. Upon his return to Bartlesville, OK he worked at Reda Pump Company before returning to Stillwater where he was the proprietor of the popular Swim’s Campus Shop and Swim’s Campus Club on the corner of Elm & Knoblock. From Swim’s he went on to be a Supervisor at the Swan Rubber Company and rounded out his career as a lab technician in the Agronomy Department at Oklahoma State University. As a result of his knowledge and expertise in the agronomy department, he (and his wife) went with the USAID program to work in Rabat, Morocco. That year was a very special year for the both of them.
He enjoyed fishing, Square Dance Fellowship and the Idella Lohman Ballroom Dance Club. He was also a member of Methodist Men’s Group.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his infant sibling, Sister Gerri and his loving wife Olga Lee.
He is survived by his brother, Mark Hartman of Oklahoma City, OK; three sons, David and his wife Pam of Stillwater, OK, Richard and his wife Grace of Tucson, AZ, and Robert and his wife Sun Young of Redondo Beach, CA; five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
He always put his family first: he loved and cared for his children and grandchildren. His sweet and compassionate nature will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A second Memorial service will take place on April 9, 2018, the 70th wedding anniversary of Glen & Olga Lee, and together their ashes will be spread 10 miles East of Stillwater.
