Anna Marie Sumpter passed from this life into the next on February 23, 2025 in Oklahoma City.
A memorial honoring her life will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the Classen Club, 722 NW 30th, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Anna was born December 4, 1952 to Rose Lee (Weems) and Joe Sumpter, in Richmond, California. She spent the majority of her younger years living in Sulphur, Oklahoma until moving to Oklahoma City in the early 90's. She joined the United States Army in 1976 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1978. After the army she returned to the Sulphur area where she attended the Nursing program at Murray State College. She preferred working in Healthcare Administration and became a Medical Billing Specialist and worked in the Oklahoma City area for 20 years. After her retirement in 2012 she relocated to Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Anna enjoyed reading, going to garage sales, spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved playing Bingo and going to casinos.
Her true work began July 4th, 1986 through the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. One day at a time, she became 38 years sober and her great fondness was always for the newcomers in a group, and sponsored many.
In this life, the legacy of her work within AA cannot be measured, however we know in the new life to come, we shall surely celebrate it. She loved helping people become close to God through this fellowship.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and one brother.
She is survived by her three daughters, Kathryn VanDeBerg, Terri Lynn Monjay, and Linda Jo Griggs and husband Brandon. Six grandchildren Sarah Tiche, Jessica Chapman, Jordon Monjay, CJ Logan, Hannah Marie Cheney and Joli Grace Cheney. Three sisters, Patricia Fallin, Jolene Mann and Donna Standford, and her brother Von Coggins and wife Teresa. Six great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
