Barbara Jean (Primo) Powell, 75, of Stillwater, Oklahoma. passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026. A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Barbara Primo Powell was born on November 17, 1950, to Robert and Edna (Tobin) Primo in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She spent her early childhood there before moving with her family to Sapulpa at the age of nine. Barbara attended Sapulpa High School, where she graduated with the Class of 1968.

She went on to attend Oklahoma State University, earning a degree in Elementary Education in 1972. During her time at OSU, Barbara was an active member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and the CAPettes drill team.

After college, Barbara married Dennis Powell and moved to Midland, Texas, where their daughter, Casey Powell, was born. She began a teaching career that would span more than 35 years, dedicating her life to education. Barbara spent the majority of her career teaching fourth grade at Jefferson Elementary School in Sapulpa, where she positively influenced and shaped the lives of hundreds of students.

Following her retirement, Barbara moved to Stillwater to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She had a passion for teaching and enjoyed horses, art, and photography. She was an avid reader and was never without a book on hand. Barbara especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren, which brought her great joy.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Edna Primo, and her brother, Robert Primo Jr.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann (Primo) Grade and Lanny Grade; her daughter and son-in-law, Casey Powell and Bobby Horner; and her grandchildren, Joseph Horner, Kendall Horner, and Kirra Horner.
