Betty Louise Daugherty went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, September 12, 2026. She was surrounded by the family who adored and cherished her.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00pm on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Sunnybrook Christian Church, where Betty faithfully attended for more than 30 years. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Strode Funeral Home. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Betty was born in Hennessey, Oklahoma, on January 10, 1936, the second of four children born to Robert and Estella Lofton. She spent her early years in Cushing, Oklahoma, where she grew up before meeting the love of her life, Arthur “Art” Daugherty of Stillwater.
Betty and Art were married on February 1, 1953. They shared a beautiful life together and celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2023, shortly before Arthur’s passing. Following their wedding, Art joined the United States Navy, and the young couple moved to Bainbridge, Maryland, where they lived for two years before returning home to Oklahoma. Betty worked at McCollom’s Interiors for more than 20 years. She took great pride in her work and the relationships she built with those around her during her many years there.
Betty enjoyed traveling, cooking, and spending time telling stories with her friends and family gathered around. She never met a stranger and always had an open door whenever someone needed it. Betty’s gift was taking care of others. The moment she saw a need, she was there to meet it with a beautiful smile and genuine joy at the opportunity to help. Making sure others were cared for brought her great happiness, and that was evident in the way she lived her daily life.
Betty also loved to laugh. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling stories that brought laughter to those around her. Betty treasured her friends deeply. They were an important part of her life and brought her so much happiness. When she wasn’t spending time with her family, Betty could often be found playing dominoes or enjoying a meal at a favorite restaurant, surrounded by friends and good conversation. She treasured those moments and, most of all, the people who made them special.
Betty’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family deeply and treasured every moment spent with them.
Betty was preceded in death by her sisters, Shirley Wiggs and Bonnie Cole.
She is survived by her brother Robert Lofton of Cushing. Betty is also survived by her four children: Jim Daugherty and his wife, MaryAnn, of Stillwater; Don Daugherty of Bakersfield, California; Bruce Daugherty of Stillwater; and Teresa Harrison and her husband, Scott, of Ripley.
She is also survived by six grandchildren: Tausha Graham and her husband, Mike, of Coyle; Mindy Meson and her husband, Marcos, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania; Jimmy Daugherty of Texas; Chrissy McCutchen and her husband, Brian, of Perkins; Johnathon Daugherty and his wife, Tiffany, of Sennwald, Switzerland; and Kyle Daugherty of Texas.
Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Cade McCutchen and his wife, Savannah; Gannon McCutchen; Maddox McCutchen; Blakely McCutchen; Wyatt Graham; Kolbin Graham; Taylin Graham; Caspian Daugherty; Gavin Meson; Alexander Meson; and Nicolas Meson.
Betty was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved Art and is resting in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
