Obituary

Betty Jean Bowling-Fryrear, 96, passed away May 9, 2024 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel, 610 S. Duncan Street, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74074. Burial will follow 2:00 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 6500 S. Perkins Road, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74074. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty was born December 21, 1927 to Ira Bowling and Vera May Harris Bowling in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She was married to Jack Ikard Fryrear in 1946 after he returned from World War II. He passed away in 2017 several months after they celebrated their 70th anniversary.

A longtime resident of Stillwater, she achieved a bachelor's degree in art education, and a master's degree in education from Oklahoma State University. She is lovingly remembered as a favorite Art Teacher who taught for many years at Stillwater High School (aka C. E. Donart High School). She was also an artist, painting many portraits and landscapes which were on display in her home, along with many pottery pieces from her years as a potter.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Jack. And her sister Juanita Bowling-Grahm.

She is survived by her daughter, Charla Fryrear McMillan Lowery; and sister, Barbara Ann Snow Patton.
