Obituary

Betty Jean LaRue, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on April 25th, 2025 at the age of 70.

Born on January 15th, 1955 in Comanche, OK, she touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and giving spirit.

She is survived by her husband, Bradley LaRue, her children Joe LaRue and wife Jessica LaRue, Jessop LaRue and wife Fawn LaRue, her brother Robert Cody Shelton Jr, her grandchildren Joseph LaRue II, Dylan Stool, and Schuyler Burns, her great grandchild, Maddux Carroll, and numerous friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Cody Shelton Sr, her mother Alice Shelton, her sister Peggy Butler, and her brother Calvin Shelton.

Betty's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, orneriness, and a strong, indomitable will. She found joy in taking care of her family and being active with hobbies, such as gardening, sewing, and a plethora of crafts. She was always ready with a listening ear, a comforting hug, and life advice if you wanted it. Throughout her life, she worked in the school system. She worked at McCord Elementary until 1994, operating and maintaining buses and making home cooked meals in the cafeteria. She then operated the Ponca City Schools 7th grade reading and computer lab, after school tutor program for students, and was a Title 1 teaching assistant. She touched the lives of thousands of children, parents, and faculty. Even in her last days, she cared about family and friends above herself to ease our grief. She and her legacy of compassion is sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude to honor her dedication of caring for children.
