Obituary

Betty Ann Steindl passed peacefully on July 30, 2026. She was the daughter of Frank and Anna Steindl, who emigrated from Bavaria in the late 1920s, and was born in Chicago on August 25, 1935. Her twin brother Frank was born 7 min and a day later. She graduated from Chicago Alvernia Catholic High School (1953) and Loyola University Chicago (1957) and received an M.A. in Special Education from Illinois Teachers College Chicago.

From 1966 – 1968, she served overseas with the Dept of Defense Schools System in Wiesbaden, Germany and Okinawa, Japan. She devoted her professional career to special needs children as a teacher in the Chicago Public Schools system from 1968 - 2001.

Betty grew up and lived in Chicago throughout her working life and then retired in Tucson, Arizona in 2001. In 2023, she moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma to be near her brother Frank and his family.

Betty was a very proud Chicagoan who loved the Windy City. She enjoyed learning from other cultures and as a result traveled extensively throughout her life with numerous trips to Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. She was an avid skier, tennis player and hiker. She was a wonderful daughter, sister and aunt who loved her family and time spent with them.

Betty is survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce, nephews David (Patti), Andrew (Cyndee) and Matthew (Katie) and is predeceased by her brother Frank and nephew Peter Steindl.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church of Stillwater, OK at 9:00 AM August 29. A rosary service will be held at 6:30 PM August 28. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Santa Catalina Catholic Church of Tucson, AZ (santacatalinaparish.org) or St. Francis Catholic Church (sfxstillwater.org). Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
