Bruce Edward Wheatley, age 79, of Perkins, died Monday, May 20, 2024 at St. Francis Medical Center in Tulsa. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Bruce was born to Floyd Charles Wheatley Sr. and Mildred Maxine Wheatley (Vassar) on November 17, 1944 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
His first marriage was to Betty Yvonne Hollinsworth. They were married 1965 in Stillwater and divorced 1982. His second marriage was to Janice Wheatley in 1983 in Stillwater. They divorced 2010.
For 60 years, he worked in Heavy Dirt Construction. He was an equipment operator for the City of Stillwater Water Utilities Department, a finish operator for H.B. Zachary Construction Company at the Sooner Dam as well as a finish operator on a motor-grader for R.E. Monks Construction in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and in the years leading to his retirement, he worked for the Payne County District 1 Road Dept and various other local companies.
He was a member of the Timers Rod Car Club and the Moose Lodge #982.
Bruce's passions were hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, hot rods, boating, rebuilding/restoring classic muscle cars, and going faster than everyone else. He was a man with amazing skills and talents. Bruce's true happy place was on the water or the road, wind in his hair, and spending time at the lake, enjoying family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Charles Wheatley Sr. and Mildred Maxine Wheatley (Vassar), sister Maxine Mildred Richards, and his son, Carey Wayne Wheatley.
Members of his family include his brother, Floyd C. "Bud" Wheatley Jr.; sister Patricia Mea "Pat" Frank; son Tim Lee Wheatley, wife Jill Wheatley and daughters; daughter Tara and husband Dave McWilliams and children, and daughter Tammee Hatfield; three step-children Charlene Shiltz, and her children, Tara Swick, and Ryan Alden and family; sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and uncle Tom and Jean Wheatley; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
