There are people who pass through this world, and there are people who leave pieces of themselves in everyone they meet. Cameron James Hale was one of those people
Born in Claremore, Oklahoma, on April 30, 2000, at 4:20 a.m., Cameron was raised in Broken Arrow, where he spent most of his childhood and young adult life. Later, he and the love of his life, Mariah Davis, made their home in Guthrie so they could be closer to the medical care he needed. Though cancer became part of his story, it was never who he was. Cameron's life was far too full of love, laughter, kindness, adventure, and unforgettable moments to ever be defined by a diagnosis.
If you knew Cameron, you knew his eyes before anything else. They were impossibly blue, full of warmth, curiosity, and kindness. And then there was his laugh. Cameron had the kind of laugh that couldn't be imitated. It belonged only to him. If you could make him laugh, it felt like you had accomplished something special. It was contagious, genuine, and one of the greatest gifts he ever gave the people around him. If you asked anyone who loved Cameron what made him special, you'd probably get a different answer every time. But they would all tell you the same thing: he loved with his whole heart.
Cameron loved with his whole heart. He had a quiet way of taking care of people that often went unnoticed because it came so naturally to him. He always made sure everyone else was eating before he did. If someone was still hungry, he would gladly hand over the rest of his own plate without a second thought. Making people feel cared for wasn't something Cameron tried to do, it was simply who he was.
That same love found its way into the kitchen.
A proud graduate of Broken Arrow High School and Tulsa Tech's Culinary Arts program in 2018, Cameron discovered that cooking was more than a career, it was one of the ways he expressed love. Inspired by his momma, Michele Lyons, and encouraged by the love of his life and greatest supporter, Mariah, Cameron pursued culinary arts with passion and determination. He earned his ServSafe certification, completed the Foundations of Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts program, became a Certified Food Service Manager, and completed Responsible Beverage Service and Sales Training through the Tulsa Health Department.
He shared his talents everywhere he worked, including Little Caesars, Cotton Patch Café, Warren Theatre, Zoe's Kitchen, and Olive Garden. Cameron admired Gordon Ramsay from the time he was young and rarely missed an episode of Hell's Kitchen or any of Gordon's other shows. He loved trying new flavors and never stopped learning. Whether he was making creamy risotto, perfectly cooked fish, grilled burgers and hot dogs, homemade chicken Alfredo, or somehow turning a package of ramen into something unforgettable, every meal he prepared carried a little piece of his heart.
Outside the kitchen, Cameron found joy almost everywhere.
He loved fishing for hours without watching the clock. He loved longboarding around Tulsa with his lifelong best friend Dennis Little, making memories that would last forever. He loved video games and could spend hours teaching family and friends how to play Call of Duty, Minecraft, Apex Legends, Borderlands, and countless others. He especially loved showing his nephews, Lukas and Lincoln Pitman, and his beloved niece, Adalie René, everything he had built in Minecraft over the years, proudly sharing his creations and favorite tricks just as he had since he was a kid. Winning was fun, but sharing the experience mattered even more.
Music was woven throughout Cameron's life. He played percussion in middle school and never lost his appreciation for rhythm. Drumline remained one of his favorite movies, and music became the soundtrack to nearly every chapter of his life. His playlists stretched across generations and genres, from Sublime, Kid Cudi, Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne, J. Cole, Usher, Alicia Keys, Manchester Orchestra, Brand New, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and countless others. Anyone who ever tried to skip Workout by J. Cole quickly learned that Cameron would simply put it right back on.
He also loved stories. Gordon Ramsay, Ghost Adventures, Key & Peele, Workaholics, YouTube, and especially 90 Day Fiancé became traditions rather than television shows. What started as something he loved soon became something he shared with Mariah, then with both of their families, filling countless evenings with laughter, commentary, and memories they will treasure forever.
Cameron loved blue, just like his beloved Dallas Cowboys. He loved springtime, cool weather, rainy days, fireworks on the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving dinners surrounded by family, sitting beneath the moon and stars, a cold Corona with lime, snickerdoodle cookies, his Vans, and trying just about any food someone placed in front of him. He was a true foodie whose curiosity extended to every flavor and every experience.
If there was one thing Cameron loved almost as much as people, it was animals.
Cats immediately found a friend in him. Dogs, especially pit bulls, melted his heart. But turtles held a special place in his life. If he spotted one trying to cross the road, he would get whoever was driving to pull over without hesitation to carry it safely to the other side. More than once, he rescued turtles and tried to sneak them home before his mom found out. Since he was little, Cameron proudly called himself "a turtle," and somehow nothing ever fit him better. Patient. Gentle. Quietly determined. Always finding his way home.
For eleven beautiful years, Cameron shared his life with Mariah Davis after the two met in Mrs. Pickett's ninth-grade English class. Together they grew up side by side. They became adults together, built dreams together, laughed until they cried, traveled, watched endless YouTube videos, stayed up far too late talking, explored botanical gardens and museums, faced six years of cancer together without ever letting go of each other's hands, and built a home filled with unconditional love.
Their beloved Kitty Baby completed their little family. Cameron adored her, calling her his sweet cinnamon swirl and his baby girl, and she faithfully stayed close to him through every season of life.
Family meant everything to Cameron. He loved his momma, siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends with every part of his heart. His niece Adalie René held an especially special place in his life, and he lovingly referred to her as one of his babies. As time became more precious, Cameron made sure the people he loved never questioned how he felt. He told them often, and from the depths of his heart:
"I love you, baby."
Those four words became one of his greatest gifts.
One of Cameron's happiest memories came during the final birthday he celebrated on April 30, 2026. His sister, Mackenzie Hale, lovingly prepared one of his favorite meals, and Cameron did what Cameron always did, he ate with pure joy, and getting to soak in every minute with his family. He spent precious time with his sisters, Mackenzie and Raven Hale, his brother, Skyler Hale, his beloved niece, Adalie René, and his lifelong best friend, Dennis Little. It was a day filled with laughter, good food, stories, and the kind of love that stays with a family forever.
Afterward, Cameron and Mariah set off on a surprise birthday trip to Wichita with their beloved Kitty Baby. Together they wandered through botanical gardens bursting with spring flowers, explored museums, relaxed in a hot tub, and simply enjoyed being together. Though life had changed, Cameron was still able to experience the beauty of the world through his own eyes. Looking back, those days became one of the greatest gifts they could have shared a birthday filled with love, adventure, and memories that will be cherished forever.
Cameron was laid to rest in accordance with his wishes in a natural green burial at Green Haven Cemetery. Wrapped in an Osage Nation burial blanket and honored with an eagle feather placed over his heart, he returned peacefully to the earth he loved so deeply. Family surrounded him with flowers chosen for their meaning, along with cedar, rosemary, sage, tobacco, and cornmeal. His momma lovingly packed some of his favorite foods, including homemade chicken and dumplings, cheese, and a lemon. Each of these small gifts reflected the simple things that always brought Cameron joy and the extraordinary love that surrounded him throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved Papa Tom.
Cameron is survived by the love of his life and partner of eleven years, Mariah Davis, his momma, Michele Lyons, his sisters, Mackenzie Hale and Raven Hale, his brother, Skyler Hale, his bonus mom Kristina Bennett and bonus dad Marvin Bennett, whom he loved as family, Nicole and Zachary Pitman; Jakob Arthur and Ayden Arthur, his cherished nieces Adalie René and Eden Pitman, nephews Lukas and Lincoln Pitman, his lifelong best friend Dennis Little, his faithful, loving cat, Kitty Baby Dawn Hale who never left his side, and countless family members and dear friends.
Cameron's life reminds us that the greatest legacies are not built through wealth or recognition, but through kindness, laughter, generosity, and love. He leaves behind a world made gentler because he was in it, and hearts that will carry him forever.
If love alone could have kept Cameron here, he would have stayed forever.
And if making Cameron laugh felt like winning, then everyone who knew him was lucky enough to win.
