Carol Ann Lloyd Douglas, age 82, passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday morning, July 10th, 2024. A memorial service will begin 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27th, 2024 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Carol was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Raymond Cass and Lenore Mae (Cummins) Lloyd on August 15, 1941, who was the youngest of three daughters. She grew up in Pawhuska with her two sisters and younger brother. Carol was a "Daddy's Girl," who loved to spend time on the farm with her father. She moved to Stillwater as a senior in high school and attended OSU after graduating from Stillwater High.
In Stillwater, she met the love of her life, Ben Cooksey Douglas. They married on March 23, 1961 and started their family the following year. Married for over 63 years, they have four children, 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren who will all dearly miss their Mom, aka "Mammo."
Early in her adult life she bowled and played bridge, forging many strong, lasting friendships. She worked outside the home in various positions; there was absolutely nothing she couldn't do. She was highly intelligent and had a wonderfully wicked, lightning-fast sense of humor. Prior to retiring from OSU's School of Architecture, she had assisted in the family business, and was a licensed realtor. She could sew up a "Level 5" storm when there were dolls needing clothes and devoted much of her life supporting her children in all of their numerous endeavors.
Carol was a devoted mother and excellent cook. You might even say that providing her family with over-the-top home cooking was part of her "Love Language." This love was not limited to our immediate family: it was common for Carol and her sisters to organize get togethers for their families, or for us to add an extra seat or two at the table for dinner. Mom also provided food, snacks, drinks and popsicles for half of the neighborhood; all summer long (unless we were at the ball fields).
We all have fond memories of summer times well spent together at the Sutton's Cabin: floating, eating, napping, reading, and playing games. Then, the next day, we'd do it all over again. No appointments, no TV, no time constraints. Just giggles and fun in the sun together. It was absolute heaven.
Mom and her sisters started a tradition of getting all three families together in what was termed, "The Semi-fun Reunion." We would choose the very hottest days of the year to go to Six Flags, drink and eat way too much junk, and ride ALL of the rides. The important thing was that we were together, enjoying each other.
Christmas was a very special time for the Lloyd sisters. Whether spent together or apart, Mom and her sisters went ALL OUT for Christmas, ensuring that each child and grandchild was spoiled rotten. There were decorations everywhere, too many presents under the tree, goodies and food covering every horizontal surface, wonderful camaraderie, music, joy, and loving family fellowship. The Lewallen's Cloud Croft Cabin held a special place in our hearts, as did Lasagna and Tripoli on Christmas Eve, whether at her house or the Sutton's home.
Each child in Carol's life grew up to her singing "You Are My Sunshine." It remains a special memory and song for each of us. Mom loved to laugh and to find the humor in every situation. More recently, she looked forward to keeping up with all of her progeny with their current photos and "chatting" with each of us every day. Carol/Mom/Mammo was, and will remain, our Sunshine, as well.
Carol is the last surviving Lloyd of her immediate family and is preceded in death by both parents and all of her siblings: Lavon Sutton, Janell Lewallen and Eddie Lloyd. She loved her sisters and their families with all of her heart.
She is survived be her rays of "Sunshine", Ben, her loving husband of over 63 years, and their four children and families.
