Obituary

Carol L. Hiner passed away at her home in Glencoe, Oklahoma on Thursday February 22, 2024 at the age of 80 after a long battle with dementia and Parkinson's disease. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Carol was born to Harold and Ethel Jardot on May 17, 1943 in Stillwater. She graduated from C.E. Donart High School in 1961 and married her high school sweetheart, Carl C. Hiner on June 22, 1962. Married for 54 years, Carl preceded her in death on November 30, 2016. Together they raised five children, one son and four daughters in their family-built home on Jardot Road which is named after Carol's grandfather Louis J. Jardot, a founding father of Stillwater. As a long time Stillwater resident, Carol proudly supported and served her husband throughout his career as the Payne County Sheriff.

In 2001, they bought land and built their dream home north of Stillwater and fulfilled their life-long dream of living in the country. Carol loved creating beauty on the farm and her "green thumb" created flower gardens that were legendary. Carol was known for her creative talents and was a long-time cake decorator, making many wedding and birthday cakes for the enjoyment of friends, family, and residents of the community. She was also an avid sewer of both clothing and home accessories.

Carol was an active stay at home mom, always supporting her children's activities in all regards. She later worked at Oklahoma State University in the Public Information Office where she utilized her keen eye for detail, assisting in the publications for Oklahoma State University. She was asked to join a special project as an Associate Editor with the Centennial History project for Oklahoma State University to memorialize the history of OSU. Once the project was completed, she joined the Oklahoma Department of Career Technology Education where she worked for the Federal Legislations Programs. She retired in 2009 to enjoy her many hobbies including grandchildren, gardening, and creativity in all regards!

Carol is preceded in death by her two brothers and one sister.

She is survived by children Randy Hiner of Stillwater, Carla Harnly and husband Mark of Stillwater, Caryn Bailey and husband Kenny of Apache, OK, Melissa Eason and husband Mike of McKinney, TX and Mindy Hesser and husband Jeff of Kingfisher, OK; They have eight grandchildren, Kyle (Shaunalynn) Hiner, Eric (Cameron) Hiner, Dylan (Skylar) Harnly, Anna Harnly, Taylor Bailey, Paige (Bailey) Denny, Emily (Gatlin) Reed and William Eason. In addition, they have six great-grandchildren with a seventh soon to arrive. Carol is also survived by sisters Linda Lawson, Cherri Cummings, Helen Shipley and Marion Herrin.
