Charles William Overstreet of Stillwater passed away on February 14, 2025. He was born April 22, 1930 to his parents Clyde E Overstreet and Edith M (Poorman) Overstreet in Cherokee, Oklahoma. Following cremation, his ashes will be interred at the Cherokee Municipal Cemetery, next to his beloved wife Dorothy Joan (Prewitt) Overstreet (March 12, 1930-April 16, 2024) to whom he was married for 71 years. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Charles ("Chuck") graduated from Ponca City High School in 1948, and from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree in Commercial Art in 1952. Following an 18-month deployment in Korea as a tank commander, he completed his US Army obligation and began a successful career in advertising, working for firms in Iowa, Oklahoma and California. He later graduated from OSU with an MS in Journalism, spending ten years teaching at the OSU School of Journalism before retiring.
Possessing a seemingly endless amount of creative energy, Charles would be actively involved in everything from building a western town out of balsa wood to oil painting. He finished constructing a model tank just weeks before his passing. He and Dorothy enjoyed traveling, including numerous trips to Hawaii, and a European concert tour (Dorothy was a member of the Singing Churchwomen of Oklahoma), to name a few.
Charles is survived by his children Carol Schmidlkofer (Pete) of Clarksville, Tennessee, Mark Overstreet (Patty) of Basalt, Colorado, and Mike Overstreet (Kim) of St. Paul, Minnesota, seven grandchildren, Heather Schmidlkofer, Heidi Goossen (Scott), Eric Schmidlkofer (Emily), Andrew Overstreet (Katie), Gracyn Overstreet, Brittany Pennington (Kyle), Mikayla Jackson (Derek) and nine great-children.
