Obituary

Charles Edward Shell Jr, age 86, passed away on December 25, 2024 in Glencoe, Oklahoma. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2024 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, with Mr. Chip Ross officiating. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles was born October 28, 1938 to Ed and Fern (Rathburn) Shell in Glencoe, Oklahoma. Charles graduated from Glencoe High School in 1956. He married Barbara Karolyn Penny in Stillwater on May 28, 1960 and they raised their family in Glencoe, Oklahoma.

Charles served in the United States Army after graduating from high school. In 1960, Charles and his wife spent some time in Virgina where he hung and finished sheetrock for a family business. Charles and his family returned to Stillwater in 1961 where he began a career with the Stillwater Fire Department. He retired from the Fire Department with 20 years of service. Charles also hung and finished sheetrock during this time as a second job. Once he retired from the Fire Department, Charles spent a few years working as a substitute mail carrier, then went to work at Moore Business Forms as a press helper. Next, he went to work as a truck driver hauling grain and horses. Charles then went to work for the Payne County Sherrif's Department where he retired as a deputy with almost 19 years of service. After retiring from the Sherrif's Department, he worked part time at the Stone Wolf and Pawnee Casinos as a security officer.

Charles had a love for the outdoors, enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. Charles enjoyed going on trail rides and riding around the farm with his horses, mules, and wagon. He also enjoyed driving around the country in his red jeep and going for rides on his motorcycle. Charles had a love for the mountains and enjoyed traveling to Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. He enjoyed watching his grandkids and great grandkids play basketball.

Charles is survived by his two sons, Rex and Barry, both of Glencoe. Additional surviving family include his two daughter-in-law's, Lisa (Driskel) Shell and Pauletta Susie (Mosher) Shell; and two grand-daughters, Misty (Shell) Hesser and her husband, Barrick and Kristen (Shell) Young and her husband, Garrett; 5 great grandchildren: Hagan Young, Alissa Hesser, Branson Hesser, Adelyn Young and Sawyer Young.

He was predeceased in death by his wife, parents and siblings Phyillis Condrey, Billie Carrier, Barbara Nichols and Jerry Shell.

Charles also had many other family members and friends who blessed his life.
