Obituary

DeLavon Scott, 79, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away on March 2, 2026, in Stillwater after a long illness, during which she showed great strength and courage. At the time of her passing, she had her son, Dustin Taylor Harjo, by her side, whose love and care brought her comfort and peace.

Memorial services will begin 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2026 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born on July 14, 1946, the daughter of Dr. Taylor Barkley Scott and Delores Scott.

From a young age, DeLavon lived life with a sense of adventure and curiosity. She began as a fearless barrel racer and even took to the skies as a parachutist, embodying the independence and courage that defined her throughout her life. Deeply proud of her Muskogee Creek heritage, she worked to preserve and celebrate it-learning the Muskogee Creek language, honoring her cultural traditions, and expressing that connection through her art and the way she cared for others. A talented and award-winning basket weaver, DeLavon used her craft to keep her heritage alive, creating pieces that reflected the beauty and resilience of her people.

DeLavon will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, and the deep love she shared with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Taylor Barkley Scott and Delores Scott; and her brother, Barkley Scott.

DeLavon is survived by her son, Dustin Taylor Harjo, and his wife, Derek Suzanne Scarsella-Harjo, of Bethany, Oklahoma; and her beloved grandson, Rykker Vaughn Harjo. She also leaves behind her dearest friend, Steve Lyford, along with many relatives and friends who will miss her deeply.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their support, prayers, and kindness during this time.
