Donald Eugene "Don" Grotheer, age 86, of Tryon, Oklahoma died Saturday, June 28, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be Monday, 1:00-6:00 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. A graveside funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at the Tryon Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Don was born March 26, 1939 in Avery, Oklahoma to Albert H. and Rosella Grotheer. He graduated from Cushing High School on May 19th, 1957. He attended trade school and apprenticed as a journeyman sheet metal worker.
Don married Joan Gammill on December 6th, 1956. He worked as a performance advisor and pro stock drag racer for Chrysler and retired as a journeyman sheet metal worker. Don was a volunteer firefighter for the Tryon Fire Department. He enjoyed retirement on the family farm with Joan, being our Papa, and bow hunting. He was a longtime member of Chandler Church of Christ.
Don is survived by his wife Joan; his two sons, Randall Mark Grotheer and his wife Nannette of Norman, Oklahoma and Steven Don Grotheer and his wife Karen of Tryon; his six grandchildren: Leslie, Lindsey, Lacy, Laura, Brandy, and Brandon (Bubba) Grotheer; and one great-grandchild, Ephraim Hall.
