Born on March 14, 1954, in Hammond, Indiana, Eugene was the son of Bronie and Mary Rhymer. Eugene grew up in Griffith, Indiana and was a graduate of Griffith High School. He went on to dedicate his career to the trucking industry. After high school, Eugene proudly served his country in Germany during Vietnam. He received awards including the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Expert M16 Badge, and Driver's Badge with Bar. Eugene married the love of his life, Jeanine DeMartino, on April 18, 1979. They shared 34 beautiful years together until Jeanine's passing in 2013. Eugene was a lifelong fan of Chicago sports, especially the Cubs and Bears. His jump shot was the envy of his childhood friends. He enjoyed spirited debates on politics with friends, evangelized his faith over CB radio, and had a remarkable memory for scripture, which he loved to share. Eugene was a member of Griffith Baptist Church and was baptized there at 15.

Eugene is survived by his son Tim Rhymer, daughter Karen McPherson, daughter-in-law Lindsay Rhymer, and son-in-law Justin McPherson. His four grandchildren, Finn, Sullivan, Mollie, and Hattie, brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his brother, Roger Rhymer, nieces, nephews, and a circle of close friends and extended family. They will forever miss his humor, warmth, and loyalty.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Bronie and Mary Rhymer; his brother, Thomas Rhymer; and his beloved wife, Jeanine Rhymer.

He will be laid to rest at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK, where he will be honored for his service to his country. Family and friends unable to travel to Oklahoma will also be invited to gather for a memorial in Indiana. Details will be communicated at a later date.
