Frank Elwood McClellan, Jr., age 83, of Perkins, Oklahoma, passed away at his home surrounded by family on August 25, 2025. Services will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2025 at the Iowa Phoebe Small Community Hall, 338361 E 740 Rd, Perkins, OK 74059. Burial will follow in the Iowa Tribal Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Frank was born on July 11, 1942, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Frank McClellan, Sr. and Alvina Small-McClellan. His grandparents were Tom and Lizzie Moore-McClellan, as well as Ed and Phoebe Kent-Small. He comes from the Sac and Fox, Iowa, and Otoe people. His name was 'Tah Kwa Ki' belonging to the Sac and Fox snow clan.
Frank attended Perkins High School and Chilocco Indian School, later attending Roswell Technical School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He served as the 2025 Sac and Fox Senior Man of the Year. A devoted member of the Native American Church, Frank ran many meetings and lived a prayerful life, giving all glory to the Creator.
He married Grace LaVera Tyner-McClellan on July 2, 1964, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and tradition until her passing on November 7, 2008.
Frank was a dancer, a skilled craftsman, and an artist whose work was well known and respected. He was especially recognized for his outstanding bustle and fan making. His artistry, patience, and devotion to detail were unmatched, and his creations will continue to be treasured for generations.
He is reunited in Heaven with his parents, grandparents, wife Grace, brothers Thomas, Robert, Benny, Billy and Russell Kim Mcclellan, sisters Dollie Mcclellan-Modlin and Judie Fern Mcclellan, son Frank Mcclellan III, daughter Alicia Mcclellan, granddaughter Megan Cunninghan, son in law Milton Cunningham, and all the other precious loved ones who went on before him.
He is survived by his four children Tammy McClellan-Cunningham, Michael and Michelle Hyatt, Russell & Alice McClellan, and Jeff and Tillie (Broncho) McClellan; his nine grandchildren and their spouses Frankee, Derrick, Charlsie, Melvin, McKayla, DJ, Skush, Tylynn, Blake, Baby K, Walter, and Joshua; nine great-grandchildren Wa.Sta.Tse, Aaliyah, Gracie Lynn, Wa.Tsa.Moie, Kunu, Sterling, Oakley, Wa.Tsa.Me
, and Wyatt each of whom brought him joy and pride. He is also survived by his sister, Pam McClellan-Thames, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Frank will be remembered as an outstanding father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love stretched across generations, and he will be missed dearly by all his family, from the youngest to the oldest.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Robedeaux, Darron Carson, Skush McClellan, Abe Lincoln, Melvin Calls Him Jr., and DJ Peckham.
Honorary pallbearers include Derrick Hammer, Walter Youngbear, Joshua McClellan, Wa.Tsa.Moie Hammer, Kunu Kemble, Sterling Calls Him, and Wyatt Peckham.
Frank will be remembered as a prayerful man, a respected leader in his faith, a devoted family member, and a skilled artist whose hands created beauty and tradition that touched many lives. His love, knowledge, and sense of humor will be missed most of all. Frank's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Supper will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
