Obituary

On October 26, 2023, Freddie Lee Shiplett Sr., 82, of Waurika, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Hazel and daughter Shelli by his side. Funeral services officiated by Pastor Justin Beadles will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 2, 2023 in the Strode Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Freddie was born to James Alfred Roy Shiplett Sr. and Airah Mae (Perrin) Shiplett in Enid, Oklahoma on April 5, 1941. He met his future wife Hazel Nell Hardin during their sophomore year at Morrison High School. Upon graduation, Freddie and Hazel were married on September 19, 1959 and briefly lived in Stillwater before moving to Morrison where they made their home and raised their five children.

Freddie began working at Stillwater Milling Company in 1959 where he started as a feed mixer then later as a truck driver before working his way into a Manager position at the new store in Perry. Freddie retired from the mill in 1984 and began working at Indian Meridian Vo-Tech until retirement in 2003. Freddie was a member of the Morrison School Board for 15 years and was the President for one 3-year term. After years in Morrison, they moved to Stillwater and continued to live there except during a short period of time in Mannford. Freddie and Hazel moved to Waurika late last year due to his illness.

After retirement, Freddie volunteered to minister to young people at boy's homes, prisons, vo-techs and on his daily walks at Wal-Mart. He loved watching the Oklahoma Sooners play football which was both a joy and a heartache. He was a member of Spring Valley Church of Christ and Countryside Church for many years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eula Davis; and three brothers, Alfred Jr., Norman, and Sidney Shiplett.

He is survived by Hazel Shiplett, his wife of 64 years, of the home in Waurika; a brother, Paul Dean Shiplett and wife Darlene of Glencoe; four sons, Freddie Shiplett Jr. and wife Rebecca of Midwest City; Roy Shiplett and wife Terri of Tulsa; Darrin Shiplett and wife Pam of Richland, Missouri; Michael Lozier and wife Diana of Stillwater; daughters Shelli Rankin and husband Terry of Waurika and Kristine Shiplett and husband Anthony Johnson of Perry; as well as 17 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
