Obituary

James Edwin Moore, 72, passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2023. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at the Stillwater Church of Christ. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

James Edwin Moore was born on February 22, 1951 to Tom and Sue Moore in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Growing up, he was a junior tight end on the 1967 C.E. Donart State Championship football team. He also met the love of his life, Kay Stroup, and they graduated from C.E. Donart High School, now Stillwater High School, in 1969. James and Kay married on May 26, 1970 at First United Methodist Church. James then attended Oklahoma State University where he achieved both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering. He and Kay then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they started their family and their long-time, wholesale irrigation and design business, The Water Store, Inc.

James and Kay and their boys, Josh and Jared "Brady," were active members of the Broken Arrow Church of Christ for nearly 20 years. James enjoyed coaching the boys' baseball teams, helping with Boy Scouts, and teaching them woodworking. James started every day by running at least 6 miles, which led to him running multiple marathons and eventually qualifying for the 100th Annual Boston Marathon. James poured a lot of energy into owning and managing The Water Store, Inc. He loved his employees and treated them like family. James was one of the lead irrigation designers in the region for projects such as The Gathering Place, Crystal Bridges, Tulsa Drillers Stadium, Philbrook Museum, and many local sports' complexes across Oklahoma. James was a practicing Professional Engineer for 49 years.

James' greatest joy in life was serving with his Church family. He was an elder at Crosstown Church of Christ in Tulsa, Oklahoma for 10 years. When James and Kay moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma in 2010, they joined the Perkins Church of Christ. James served as an elder at Perkins for over 11 years. He loved teaching children's Bible school classes and sponsoring students in Zambia. Once a month, James would organize, cook, and help serve a meal at the 4Kids and Community dinner in Perkins. He loved this organization because it also provides school supplies for teachers and students to use and weekend meal bags for kids.

James committed his whole life to following Christ and serving others. He was loved by so many family and friends!

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kay Moore; his sons, Josh Moore and Amy and Jared "Brady" Moore and Ashley; his grandchildren, Macy Nowlin and Jackson, Ally Moore and Josh Morton, Maddox Moore, Cadee Cagle, Allie Cagle, Kinley Moore, and Sadie Moore; his siblings, David Moore and Junelle, Martha Brickell, and Paul Moore.

James is preceded in death by family members Tom and Sue Moore, Rebecca Moore, and Emily Moore Hood.
