James "Bud" Watkins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at The Lodge in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Born on August 9, 1935, in Payne County, Oklahoma, Bud was the cherished son of Oscar James and Ida Mae Henderson Watkins. He grew up with a deep love for his family and a strong sense of community, both of which he carried throughout his life. Bud graduated from C.E. Donart High School in Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 1953. It was in this vibrant town that he met the love of his life, Betty JoAnne Pepin. They married on August 15, 1953, and embarked on a journey together that would last over six decades. Their marriage, one of mutual respect and unwavering devotion, was an inspiration to many. A skilled mechanic, Bud dedicated his career to working in various capacities for over 55 years across Oklahoma and Colorado. His work on the Million Dollar Highway in the Colorado mountains was a proud testament to his expertise and determination. Bud concluded his professional journey with Uniroyal, retiring in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and hard work. Bud was a man of many interests and talents. He cherished his time outdoors, tending to his beloved red roses and irises. His passion for tinkering was well-known, as he could often be found fixing or creating something new. His quick wit and positive attitude were endearing qualities that brought joy and laughter to those around him. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ida, his beloved wife, Betty JoAnne, his brother, Louis Watkins, sister, Louise Hale, and great-grandson, Klayton James Rieck. He leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his memory: his children, Jana Sue Watkins Cezeaux and husband Rod Cezeaux, Steven Frank Watkins and wife Marie Watkins, and Kimberly Anne Watkins Rieck, his grandchildren, Jason Cezeaux, Jamey Cezeaux Baker, and Benjamin Rieck, and his sister, Dorothy Porter. His legacy lives on through these three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. As we celebrate Bud's life, the family extends their heartfelt thanks to the 5th floor caregivers at Ardmore Mercy Hospital, Guardian hospice staff, and the dedicated team at The Lodge at Ardmore Village for their compassionate care and support. A service to honor and remember Bud will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens, located at 6500 S Perkins Rd, Stillwater, OK 74074. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bud's memory to a charity of choice. Bud's life was a testament to love, laughter, and resilience. His legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
