Stillwater resident James Allen Whitten, 81, passed away Monday, June 2, 2025 in Stillwater.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2025 in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Strode Funeral Home and Cremation.
James was born June 14, 1943 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Claude C. Whitten and Lila Helen (Buntin) Whitten. After graduating from Stillwater High School he served in the United States Army, serving in Korea. When he returned home, he attended Okmulgee Tech. In 1988 he married Peggy (Lamer). James worked 35 years for National Standard before retiring. He enjoyed spending time outside doing yard work and was a skilled mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Caroline Madison, and a stepson, Chris Graham.
Survivors include his wife Peggy of the home, children Terri Hensley and husband Steve of Stillwater, Brett Whitten of Bartlesville, and Brandon Whitten and wife Keri of Glencoe, stepdaughter, Cherrie Jakubek and husband Robert of Virginia, grandchildren, Garrett, Kennedy, Lila, Tristen, Dani, James, and Emma, and numerous other family members and friends .
