Jo'Ann Big Soldier Mayes, age 87, of Perkins, Oklahoma, went to her heavenly home May 25, 2026. Funeral service will begin 12:00 p.m. Thursday at the BAH KHO JE CHENA BLDG., Perkins, with burial to follow at the Kent family Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Jo'Ann was born to Jacob J. and Rachel N. (Kent) Big Soldier on March 26,1939 in Cushing, Oklahoma. She grew up and attended schools in Perkins and later transferred to Central High School where she graduated in 1958. She enjoyed sports, especially softball and basketball, and lettering at both schools.

She attended Draughon's School of Business. Her 1st job was at Kerr's Department Store in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was an entrepreneur and owner of Parisian Beauty Salon. (Her last employment with the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma was records management). She was an AVID Thunder, NBA and College football fan, Especially, OU!!

She is preceded by her parents, siblings, E. Louise Smith, Jacob Big Soldier, Sr. and Eugene Big Soldier, Jr.

She is survived by sons, Michael Washington of Shawnee, Fredrick Washington of Shawnee, and daughter Lisa Washington of Perkins. Her grandchildren, Dustin Reed, Roxi Reed, Mariah Patterson of Perkins, and Alisha Washington of Shawnee. Great grandchildren Emilio, Elena, Ezekiel, Azairia, Ariez, Sadie, Ava, and Tyler. Her sisters E. Joyce Big Soldier Miller of Perkins and Linda K. Big Soldier of Tryon. As well as a host of nieces and nephews.
