John Gilbert "Gib" Buntin, 85, a lifetime resident of Stillwater, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

A remembrance service celebrating Gib's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 20, at Strode Funeral Home and Cremation.

Gib was born on May 20, 1940, in Oklahoma to Robert and Addie Marie (Rust) Buntin. A hardworking man throughout his life, Gib spent many years as a dedicated ironworker before retiring. During his time with the Ironworker's Local 48, he worked on ironworking projects throughout Oklahoma State University, as well as Stillwater Medical Center and Meridian Technology. His impact was made throughout the great state of Oklahoma. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

In addition to his ironworking career, Gib worked hauling hay, chopping wood, and putting in long days wherever hard labor was needed. He was especially proud of building his own home and later building his son's house as well - a lasting testament to his skill, perseverance, and self-reliance. A man of many traits and talents, Gib loved working with his hands and found satisfaction in creating things meant to last.

Gib found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved the outdoors and cherished time spent with friends and family spent camping, fishing, and hunting, pursuits that reflected his appreciation for nature and a life well lived.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Clarence and Addie Marie (Rust) Buntin; two brothers, Clarence Frank and Earl Louis Buntin Sr.; and three sisters, Betty Marie Brown, Mary Jane Cooper, and Edna Jo Metcalf. John Gilbert Buntin is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Judy V Buntin of Stillwater; two sons, Kelly Lynn Buntin of the home, and John Allen Buntin and his wife Sherri of Stillwater; and two cherished grandchildren, Savanna Mac Buntin and John Nicolas Buntin, both of Stillwater.
