Obituary

Stillwater resident, Dr. John P. Lloyd, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

John was born on December 20, 1940, in Tuscola, Illinois to John and Gretchen (Skinner) Lloyd. He dedicated much of his life to education and learning, earning his Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois. Throughout college John was a member of the R.O.T.C. and later finished his military career in the US Army as Captain in 1970. After his military service was completed he joined Oklahoma State University as a Professor of Civil Engineering, where he impacted many students and colleagues over the years.

John first married Heather M. MacAlpine who preceded him in death. In May of 2005, he married Ruth Ann (Boone) Pals in Stillwater, Oklahoma where they built a life together filled with love and companionship.

He found joy in simple things - camping, hiking, fishing, woodworking and time spent with family. He had a special place in his heart for dogs and all animals.

John was preceded in death by his parents, a baby brother and his first wife.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Ruth Ann Lloyd; his stepdaughters, Angela Phillips (Chris) and Kendra Cox (Cary); his step-grandchildren, Jada Kucko (Cade), Karsen Cox, Corbin, Ashlyn and Lauren Phillips; His sister Alice Kohler (Harry); and nephew, Scott Koher. He will deeply be missed by all who knew and loved him.
