Larry Lester, of Stillwater, age 81, "Graduated to Glory" on March 26, 2024, after his emergency helicopter flight to Oklahoma City. A graveside memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 in Sunset Memorial Gardens. It is located between Stillwater and Perkins on the west side of Highway 177. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Born is 1943 to Emmitt and Zelma Lester on March 6, 1943. Larry Grew up in Anderson, Indiana. He was interested in model trains, watching humming birds, listening to old country music and watching drag-racing. Later on, he met the love of his life, Emma Clem. They both worked for Larry's aunt Marie on her farm. Larry and Emma married on October 25, 1964. Larry became a long-haul truck driver, and his wife birthed three children.
Larry is predeceased by his parents, Emmitt and Zelma Lester, wife Emma after 53 years of marriage, plus two daughters, Dawn Lester and Joyces Knowles. Larry is survived by his son Rodney and mate Karen, grandchildren Donavon Lester and Larissa Knowles, plus great grand-children Olivia Lester, Ryver Knowles, and Emmily Lester.
In recent years, Larry and Emma were active in both Hillcrest Baptist Church and the Men's Group at Southside Baptist Church. The family has expressed thanks for all the support of "adopted" brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Ikie Grissam from Indiana. Larry and Emma had a number of good friends from the churches' men's and women's groups.
