Obituary

Larry Bruce Plank, 82, of Perkins, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and sons.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 15, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Strode Funeral Home and Cremation.

Larry was born on May 9, 1943, in Long Beach, California, before moving to Fairview, Oklahoma, where he spent his formative years. He graduated from College High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1961, where he was a drummer in the school's marching band. Soon after graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy as an electrician. His four years of service took him around the world, instilling in him a lifelong sense of adventure and dedication.

Following his military service, Larry earned his degree from Oklahoma State University, where he was a proud member of the Flying Aggies. His love of aviation stayed with him throughout his life. Larry went on to run a successful heating and air business for 40 years, known not only for his technical skill but for his kindness-often accepting boxes of pecans or apples from his elderly customers as payment, much to their delight.

A man of many talents, Larry was also an accomplished drummer beyond high school. He played at the historic Cimarron Ballroom, brought music to the Perkins Senior Center, and could always be counted on to keep a steady beat wherever friends gathered. He also had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying countless camping trips, Dutch oven cooking over a fire, and fishing in peaceful waters. In his later years, one of his greatest joys was spending his mornings at "the coffee shop"-otherwise known as McDonald's-sharing stories and laughter with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Steven Plank.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, LaNita Gayle Plank of the home, his son Brian of Enid, Oklahoma, his son Tyler of Perkins, Oklahoma, and his sister Trudy of Bartlesville.

Larry's warmth, humor, and steadfast presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of service, friendship, and generosity will live on in the lives he touched.
