Obituary

Lindsey Sommer Hayes gained her wings August 30, 2025. A Celebration of Lindsey's Life will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the First Baptist Church, 701 S. Duncan, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with Pastor Tim Walker officiating. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Lindsey was born June 16, 1982 to Crystal Shedrick-Hayes and Roger Wayne Hayes in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Lindsey loved her family more than anything in the world, her brother Dustin Taylor Hayes and her beloved niece, Zoey Marie Hayes. Her niece Zoey Marie gave her such joy, fun and love. Lindsey lived every breath for Zoey. Lindsey made certain Zoey had the opportunity to attend, participate and explore every occasion whether it was shucking oysters for pearls, eating crab legs, down-town Halloween parades or Yost Lake Turtle Races. Lindsey made certain Zoey was never without the latest tee shirt craze, as Lindsey made Zoey everyone, but it was most important, that Zoey have every size and design of Minky Blankets, for the softest cuddles.

Lindsey adored and fiercely protected her brother Dustin like a lioness; you didn't mess with Dustin, as Lindsey would take on the roughest in the neighborhood, if anyone hurt him. Lindsey picked him up, hid him out, dug through lunch bag trash on spaghetti day, just to find his retainer, and what else, we really don't want to know. It was sibling rivalry, but the love for her little brother never wavered.

Lindsey was a traveler. She traveled with her dad in his newest of Peterbilt Trucks, for new tires, tarps, or for a "take it to the pit and dump it" just to ride with her dad. Lindsey, believe it or not, even bought her dad, over the phone, his last Peterbilt in Dallas, Texas and convinced them, she had the check and was headed south with her dad to pick it up. She was truly, her dad's roadside service. Trips with her mom to California were her favorite, and excursions with friends to Mexico and Colorado gave her the wind in her hair, Lindsey never passed on a road trip.

Lindsey wasn't just loyal and true, she was one-hundred percent Cowgirl; there wasn't anything she couldn't do; carry and stack hay, dredge through snow and ice to feed the herd, bottle fed five orphaned calf's all at one time, thaw out frozen hoses to get water to the troughs; yup, that cowgirl could "back a trailer", whether a load to the sale barn or at the loading dock for feed, Lindsey left her handprint and her boot-print on every person and animal though generous caring, giving and kindness.

Lindsey would call herself, a well-educated cowgirl, she held a Master of Science in the College of Education and a Bachelor of Science in the College of Arts and Sciences from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma; she was a Graduate of Applied Behavior Analysis in the Department of Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas and was a Degreed Graduate of Stillwater High School, class of 2001. She truly had a universal love and concern that reflected in all the lives she touched during her teaching years.

Lindsey undeniably had a wickedly funny sense of humor, just ask her Uncle Steve about firecrackers in the barn, or all the kids about raising bathing suits up the Yost Lake Flagpole. She was talented in so many ways, from crafting and baking; she often tutored high school and college students, and making sure they passed their class with flying colors. Lindsey also loved service, from helping her mom deliver Mobile Meals, providing and delivering Christmas and Thanksgiving Meals, or just stopping on the street to offer food for ones in need.

Lindsey loved music, she was absolutely a concert expert, and attended so many of her favorites, as well collected autographs on her boots, blue jeans and pictures with Alan Jackson, Loretta Lynn, Tanya Tucker, Martina McBride, Cross Canadian Ragweed, Cody Canada, Jason Boland, her favorite Beach Boys and many others as well.

Lindsey was a lifetime member of the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association, and loved her Cowboys; she bled orange in her house divided, as her dad, bled OU red. She most enjoyed growing up at Yost Lake. She bowled in younger days with the Youth Bowling Association and later as a member of the Tuesday Night Mixed Bowling league and the WIBC Women's International Bowling Congress. (Where "Winner-Winner Chicken Dinner" often was heard from Lisa, her biggest fan). Lindsey was also a lifetime member of the Alpha Omicron Pi National Fraternity and Lindsey was a proud member of Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma. Lindsey most cherished her beloved Circle H Ranch. Life-long Yost friendships with Nicki and Katie, life-long school friends, Ginger, Nina, Laura and Mandy; her treasured bonus sister, Wytni, and her front porch pal Tamera. Working with her family's business, Shedrick Management, Lindsey never met a stranger as she also shook hands with everyone on the campaign trail with her MeMe and interacted with Judges and Lawyers since she was 10 years old. Lindsey was opposite of ordinary, she just went for it, it wasn't always easy for her, but she always kept trucking.

Lindsey received her ANGEL WINGS and entered HEAVEN at the young age of 43 years, after courageously battling an extremely rare and sudden case of pneumonia at OU Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; in ICU, Lindsey bravely fought for eleven (11) days, even while specialist at Mayo Clinic-Rochester continued trying to solve the antidote of antibiotics that would attack her infection, Lindsey gave everything she had to hold on.

Lindsey is pre-deceased by her paternal grandparents, E. Lyle and Rose Marie Hayes; Uncle Jimmy Lyle Hayes and Aunt Karla Hayes Moffit; her maternal grandfather, R. Mike Shedrick, and Uncle M. Scott Shedrick.

She is survived by her parents Roger and Crystal; brother Dustin; niece Zoey Marie, her beloved maternal grandmother Bernice Shedrick; Uncle Steven Shedrick, Aunt Denise Shedrick; paternal Aunt Margaret Hayes, and Uncle Al Moffit; cousins Hunter Shedrick-Dinkel (Brennen) of Tulsa, Erica Hayes-Aytia (Kyle and Arabelle) of Seminole, Angela Moffit-Rogers (Gary) of Perkins, Chrissi Hayes of Mannford, and many additional cousins, family members and friends who will forever hold her memory dear.

Lindsey led life bold, big, and adventurous, there was nothing she couldn't do, when she set her mind to it. Lindsey's life was filled with love, faith, and a steadfast devotion to her family, her community, and the land she cherished. Lindsey cared deeply, and lived loudly, her big beautiful brown eyes, will forever be etched in our hearts.

Lindsey's family extends their deepest gratitude to all the ICU and Trauma doctors, nurses, and staff who worked tirelessly to save Lindsey, as well as to their church, family and community for their prayers, love, and support during this time of profound loss.
