Obituary

Lou Ann (Scroggin) Harwell, 63, of Stillwater, passed from this earthly life and received her heavenly crown on Friday, October 27, 2023, in Stillwater, OK. Lou was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on July 8, 1960, to Margaret Ellen (Moore) and Robert Edward Scoggin. She spent her childhood in Albuquerque, N. M.; El Paso, Texas; and Odessa, Texas as the youngest of four children.

After graduating from Permian High School in 1978, Lou attended Odessa College and was a member of the drill team, Las Senoritas de las Rosas, marching in the Sun Carnival Parade in El Paso under the direction of Pat Hodges. Lou was a disc jockey for the campus radio station KUFO-FM under the supervision of Wally Jackson. She graduated with honors from Odessa College with an Associate in Fine Arts.

In 1985, Lou married Roy Zane Harwell. They had three children whom she cherished. Lou was an extremely caring mother and taught her children to value curiosity, creativity, authenticity, integrity and compassion. As a young mother, Lou accepted Jesus as her personal Savior, was baptized, and was faithful disciple of the Most High God the remainder of her life. The Word of God was integral in all she did.

In 2002, Lou graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a B. A. in Communication (double major) from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Lou worked for the University of Texas at Austin for seven years and most recently was a Contract Administrator at Oklahoma State University. She loved to be outdoors and enjoy nature. She liked to write, especially a "News from Lake Wobegon"-styled series based in Stillwater.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Margaret Scoggin.

She is survived by her children Ellie Harwell of Springfield, Oregon; Elaine Harwell and husband S. Travis Waller of Dresden, Germany; Peter Harwell of Stillwater; sister Mary Scoggin of Odessa; brother John Scoggin and wife Jonell of Austin, Texas; brother Robert Scoggin, uncle Carl Moore, Jr. and cousin Karla Moore of Socorro, N.M.; nieces Juliet Jones and Cambri Massie of Texas; cousin Sandra Bonham of Warrendale, PA., and other extended family.
