Lynn was born on August 23, 1945, in Wichita, Kansas. She married the love of her life, Glen Hugh Martin Jr., on April 1, 1963, in Wichita, Kansas. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Lynn was a model of Christian integrity and had the heart of a homesteader. As a child, she was never taught basic life skills such as cooking and cleaning. Lynn learned to do these things on her own, in addition to becoming a skilled seamstress, quilter, cook, and a wiz at food preservation. Lynn had the perfect blend of humor and grace. Just days before her death, laughter could often be heard coming from her room as she visited with friends and family. She had her serious moments as well. Lynn's last words to one family member were "make sure you are saved". Her values were simple. She believed family and faith are important, and that you should invest in others.
Lynn was saved as a young child when her Sunday School teacher led her to the Lord. Throughout her life, she lived out her faith. She ministered in church, to her family, friends, and her community. She served in several churches, including Central Baptist Church, Ponca City, Oklahoma, First Baptist Church, Glencoe, Oklahoma, and Bible Baptist Church, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Some of the church ministries she served in include playing the organ, working in the nursery, and methodically cleaning the wood on the church pews. Lynn was a member of the GEMS (God's Energetic Mature Saints) Sunday school class at Bible Baptist Church and, in recent years, could often be found at Jimmy's Egg on Thursday mornings with several others from the GEMS class. She served her community through the Soroptimist club, helped start a hospice in Ponca City, and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Lynn loved nature and all the beautiful things God created. She took great pride in her houseplants and had geraniums blooming year-round in their home. Her sunroom, quilt studio, and bedroom, all with large picture windows, gave her a constant view of the outdoors. She enjoyed drinking coffee as she watched the morning light change as the sun came up and broke through the trees. Watching hummingbird feeders all around the house brought many smiles to her face as the hummingbirds hovered near the feeders. Lynn was sentimental in some ways. She kept things that were meaningful to her. Hanging in her quilt studio is a dress she wore as an infant. Displayed in the living room are cap guns she had as a child.
Lynn graduated from Southeast High School in Wichita, Kansas, and received a degree in accounting from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. She also graduated from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with a degree in business accounting. She had a 4.0 grade point average from both schools. She held several jobs, including paint scheduler at Huffy Bicycle, worked in accounting at Frontier Federal, and various other places of employment. Lynn also worked privately doing tax returns.
Lynn's training and career were in business accounting, but at heart, she was a teacher and constantly invested in others. She truly had a servant's heart. Lynn took the time to teach friends and family how to sew, make quilts, preserve food through canning, and make sourdough bread. Lynn even taught a quilting class in her home during the time she was receiving cancer treatments, only taking a short break when side effects proved to be too much. She continued working on quilts to give as gifts until shortly before her death. Even as her body began to fail, she prayed for others, watched over family members, making sure they were eating right and taking care of themselves, and placed labels on personal items to be given away after her death. Lynn will be remembered by family, church family, and friends for being selfless, joyful, strong yet gentle, loving, a humble servant, godly, and faithful. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Edward Harder and Beatrice Maxine Harder Haworth.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Glen Hugh Martin Jr, son Glen H. Martin III (Trey) and wife Becky, daughter Debbie K.
