Margie Ann Moranville (née Gerlach), age 86, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, at Stillwater Medical Center. Margie was born on May 10, 1939, in St. Clair County, Illinois, to John Phillip Gerlach and Gertrude Justine Gerlach (née Donze). Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Margie graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1957 and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Art from Fontbonne College in 1961. On August 26, 1961, she married Richard Patrick Moranville in St. Louis, beginning a loving union that lasted over six decades. Together, they lived in Washington, Missouri (1962-1967), then Florissant, Missouri until 2008, later moving to New Franklin, Missouri until 2020, and finally to Stillwater, Oklahoma, where Margie resided at Legacy Village.
A devoted Catholic, Margie was a lifelong learner and a woman of deep faith. She expressed her creativity through painting, sketching, music, and flower arranging. She loved history and nature, often exploring the areas she lived and visited with journals and sketchbooks in hand. Her flourishing flower gardens were a source of pride and joy. Margie served as a Girl Scout Leader, taught water aerobics for special needs adults in St. Louis, and volunteered as a docent at the Old St. Ferdinand Shrine in Florissant, Missouri. She delighted in picnics, nature walks, baking and cooking with her children and grandchildren, and creating beautiful things-whether through crochet, sewing, or gift wrapping. Her passion for genealogy led her to research the ancestry of both her family and Richard's, always curious about the lives of those who came before her.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents and one infant grandson, Joseph Richard Hunziker. She is survived by her beloved husband Richard Patrick Moranville; her identical twin sister Mary Ann Schmidt and husband Bill Keys; four children: Jerry Moranville and wife Kristine of Florissant, MO, Mary Beth Hunziker and husband Dave of Stillwater, OK, Denise Welborn and husband Jeff of Joplin, MO, Amy Chitwood and husband Jon of New Franklin, MO.
She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Patrick Moranville (fiancée Emily Mueth), Erin Moranville (Hunter Tice), Emily Moranville, Mara Roberts (husband Brendan), Grace Hunziker (Zachary Croft), Johnathan Welborn (wife Klarissa), James Welborn (wife Megan), Matthew Welborn (wife Noelle), Katie Welborn (Kiet Lam), Chloe Chitwood, Korinna Chitwood, and Griffin Chitwood; and seven great-grandchildren: Miles Welborn, Mary Jane Welborn, Annie Welborn, Jesse Welborn, Sloane Roberts, and twins Teddy and Owen Welborn along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Stillwater, Oklahoma, with her nephew Rev. Thomas Esselman officiating. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Florissant, Missouri at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Incarnate Word Academy in St. Louis, Missouri, 2788 Normandy Ave. Normandy, Missouri 63121 or the American Cancer Society.
"Eternal rest grant unto Margie, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen."
