Obituary

Marie Elizabeth (Osborn) Jones, 87, of Stillwater went to be with her Lord Jesus on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at her home. The family will conduct a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Stillwater Church of Christ. Mrs. Jones was laid to rest on March 25, 2026, in Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Marie was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 1, 1938, to Charles E. "Buster" Osborn and Cleo Doreen (McCamey) Osborn. At age 5 years her parents were divorced, she and her sister, Faye "Lorraine" Osborn, went to live with their maternal grandparents, Loyde D. and Pearl (Arnett) McCamey.

She attended Oklahoma City schools, graduating in the first graduating class of the new Northwest Classen High School in 1956. In June 1956 she married William "Bill" Edgar Long. To this union two sons were born: William Edgar "Eddie" Long, Jr. and John Thomas Long. In 1960 Eddie died when he was almost three years old from burns suffered in a fire. In 1967 this marriage ended in divorce, and Marie lived with her grandmother who had moved to Coyle, Oklahoma.

In 1968, while working at Edmon Lowe Library at Oklahoma State University, Marie met the love of her life, Marvin Ray Jones, who worked at the Registrar's Office at OSU. They were introduced to each other by Cecil Grissom, Bursar at OSU, and Marie's sister, Lorraine Cundiff, who worked in Bursar's office. Marie and Marvin were married July 26, 1969, at Bennett Chapel on the OSU Campus. From 1971 to 1973 she served as Den Mother for a Cub Scout Troop at Highland Park School where her son attended.

In 1973, she was baptized at the Stillwater Church of Christ. Later, she worked as a secretary in the Dairy Building of the Animal Science Department at OSU, and Marvin became Manager of Production Services in the Department of Administrative Systems.

In 1977, Marie became a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed tracing her family genealogy, crocheting and other crafts, selling her crochet items in fairs, local craft shops, and later taking orders for them. She and Marvin enjoyed flower gardening together, feeding and watching the birds, as well as cooking together. It was a holiday tradition for them to make a large meal and lots of homemade candy and cookies. They also enjoyed going to the Jones family camping reunions twice a year. Marvin, her husband and soul mate of 32 years, died December 31, 2001. Marie loved the Lord and learned to trust Him more for everything after the death of her husband.

For ten years Marie served as a World Bible School Teacher and Coordinator at the Stillwater Church of Christ, and was a WBS correspondent teacher to students around the world, and later to students in Oklahoma prisons. She fought cancer for several years before her death.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, her husband, Marvin Ray Jones, a son, William "Eddie" Long, her sister, Faye "Loraine" (Osborn) Cundiff, half-brothers, William "Bill" Washam and Charles Osborn, and a stepdaughter, Cindy Gruenwald.

Marie is survived by her son, John Thomas Long and wife Mary of Stillwater, two step-daughters, Sherry Alford and husband Tom of Glencoe, Oklahoma, and Terri Duggins of Highland, California; three half-brothers, Charles Bailey and wife Elizabeth of Prague, Oklahoma, True Osborn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Richard Osborn and wife Kay of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a half-sister, Juanita (Osborn) Gasaway and husband Harold of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two grandsons, John Thomas Long, Jr. of Stillwater, and Joseph Long and wife Sarah of Mannford, Oklahoma, a step-grandson, Brian Alford and wife Rebekah of Edmond, OK, three great grandsons, Lucas Long, Jorge Long, and Wilder Long, and a great granddaughter, Molly Long, and several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
