Marilynn June "Bunnie" Bond, (87), of Okeene, Oklahoma passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Harrah, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Okeene Methodist Church with Quintin Wray officiating. 

An optional viewing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. before the service. A private family interment will be held later that day at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Bunnie was born on June 24, 1939, in Okeene, Oklahoma to Edward Archibald Barnes and Violet Mae (Haigler) Barnes. She married her college sweetheart, Gregg Stephen Bond on July 2, 1961 in Okeene. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2000.

She graduated from Okeene High School in 1957, attended Oklahoma State University, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secretarial Administration in 1961. Following their wedding that summer, she and Gregg traveled together during his military service from 1962 to 1969, living in Georgia, Texas, Germany, Colorado, and Oklahoma. She resided in the Stillwater area from 1969 until 2007, then moved back to Okeene to live near her mother and extended family until 2024. She found great comfort later in life by moving to Harrah to reside with her daughter’s family.

Bunnie held various secretarial positions throughout her life, starting during her college years in the Industrial Engineering Department at OSU. She later worked for Dr. Schissler, a Stillwater pediatrician; Top Services, Inc., as a typesetter and editor of college dissertations; the Oklahoma State Department of Vo-Tech; and a short time at Mercury Marine. She went on to work as the office manager at Strode Funeral Home, retiring when her husband became seriously ill following his lung transplant.

She was a dedicated member of Okeene Methodist Church and previously belonged to the Morrison United Methodist Church for many years. She loved being involved in church life and participating in United Methodist Women, where she proudly served as Stillwater District Officer. Additionally, she was a member and former officer of the Noble County Oak Grove Homemakers and a member of Chapter A of the PEO in Okeene.

Bunnie cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. Most of her happiest moments were spent with family on vacations and taking care of her grandchildren anytime, anywhere. In her free time, she loved reading, cheering for the OKC Thunder, traveling and being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Violet Stephenson; father, Archie Barnes; husband, Gregg Bond; stepfather, Carroll Stephenson; and brother, William Barnes.

She is survived by her two sons, Dwight Bond and his wife April of South Pasadena, CA and David Bond and his wife Anne of Geneva, IL; her two daughters, Rebecca Towe and her husband Charlie of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Nancy Vernon and her husband Rod of Harrah, Oklahoma; five grandchildren: Cassidy (Towe) and husband, Travis Robnett of Ft. Worth, Texas (with her first great-granddaughter, Violet on the way); Haley Towe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and fiancé, Canon Loberg, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Grace (Vernon) & husband Kyle Briscoe of Choctaw, Oklahoma; and Emma (Vernon) and husband, Clayton Freeman of Harrah, Oklahoma; and Benjamin Bond of Geneva, Illinois. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Karen Barnes of Ames, Oklahoma.

Bunnie’s Funeral Service begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Okeene Methodist Church, 302 S. 5th Street, Okeene, Oklahoma. The viewing will begin at 9:30am at the church. A private burial will follow in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Bunnie’s mother established a college scholarship fund for Okeene High School graduates to encourage continued education.
