Marlys Ann Meier, age 79, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away on October 14, 2025 just one day before her 80th birthday. A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel.
Marlys Schmidt was born on October 15, 1945 to Lowell and Gladis Schmidt in Windom, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm in the Windom area, attended Windom High School, and then Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
Marlys married Donald Meier in Jeffers, Minnesota on July 31, 1964. They settled for a short time in Young America, Minnesota and then settled in the Twin Cities Area, Minnesota. Together, they had two sons, Craig Brian Meier and Barry Robert Meier.
Marlys worked for General Mills, Inc. in Golden Valley, Minnesota for 43 years in various roles. Prior to retirement, she experienced a spiritual awakening at a Via De Cristo weekend and continued involvement with them for several years. She also volunteered at Metro Hope Ministries (Healing House) helping women and children struggling with addiction and also volunteered in prison ministry for a number of years.
Later in life, she moved to Frisco, Texas and then to Stillwater to be closer to family.
Throughout her life, she was known as a very kind person and for her smile. Her grandson Allen recently described her as a "benevolent soul", which is so fitting.
Marlys is preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Gladis Schmidt and sister Joyce Schmidt.
She is survived by her son Craig Brian and wife Roraima Guiu Meier; son Barry Robert Meier; sister Linda and husband Gene Johnson; grandson Allen Guiu Meier and Sarah Ayoubi; step-nephews Jake Gooderum and Jordan Gooderum; as well as other family and friends.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to friends and staff at Primrose Retirement Community of Stillwater and Legacy Village for their friendship, compassionate care, and support. Thanks also to Luminos Hospice for care in the last weeks of her life.
