Obituary

Mary Carolyn Askey Cail, age 80, of Stillwater, died Monday, February 3, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025 at Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment following in Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Carolyn was born in Joplin, Missouri on December 26, 1944. She was the only child born to Carl Francis Askey and Maureen Katherine Hale Askey, who preceded her in death. She moved with her parents to a dairy farm in Lenapah, Oklahoma at an early age. She loved raising and riding horses and even did a few rodeos. She graduated from Lenapah High School in 1963 and went to Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas. She then attended NEO A & M in Miami, Oklahoma where she obtained an associate's degree in music. She then attended Oklahoma State University from 1965 - 1966.

While attending OSU on November 13, 1965, she met Charles Ray Cail at the Homecoming Celebration. They were married on January 27, 1967 at OSU's Bennett Memorial Chapel. They just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. To this union, two children were born, Catherine Faith Cail Coulter and Charles Clay Cail.

Her and Charles lived in several places as he served in the Air Force, but they resided in Texas and Oklahoma mainly. They moved from Bonham, Texas to Woodward, Oklahoma in 1977. Carolyn attended NWOSU in Alva and graduated in 1988 with a bachelor's in science degree in psychology.

She worked as a social worker while residing in Woodward. When they moved to Stillwater in 1992, she worked for DHS. Beginning in 1998, she worked at the OSU college of Education as an information coordinator for the National Rehabilitation Clearing House. She retired in 2006.

After retirement she enjoyed volunteering at Stillwater Medical Center and spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of the home; daughter Catherine of Enid; son Clay and wife Brandi of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; grandchildren Shalene and (Travis) Tietz of Enid, Katelyn and (Mark) Yackeschi of Enid, and Kevin and (April) Coulter of Enid; great-grandchildren Braden, Rayelynn, Adalayna, and Mark.

She is preceded in death by her parents and grandson Matt Rider.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Stillwater Mobile Meals.

The family would like to thank the Stevenson Cancer Center, Stillwater Medical Center, and The Cancer Center for their care and support while our sweet momma was in their care. The family would also like to thank the many friends and neighbors that have supported our family during her illness.

The family requests that all who attend her service wear bright clothes and dress casually.
