Obituary

Mary Katherine "Katie" (Brown) Goss, 76, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed peacefully on December 18, 2025, at Stillwater Medical Center. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Albright United Methodist Church, with Pastor Andy Lambel officiating.

Katie, as she was known to friends and family, was born on April 14, 1949, in Ponca City to George Alva and Opal (Musgrave) Brown. She attended Ponca City schools and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1967. On October 29, 1971, she married David Louis Goss of Perry, Oklahoma, at First United Methodist Church in Perry. They welcomed one daughter before divorcing in May 1979.

Katie enjoyed a long and accomplished career as a Certified Professional Secretary and earned an Associate's degree in General Business. She worked for Evans and Associates in Ponca City from May 1980 until May 1997. She then joined the staff of the Marland Mansion from 1997 to 2000, where she assisted the director and discovered a love for leading historical tours and coordinating event rentals. In 2000, Katie began working for the Ponca City Parks and Recreation Department, where she remained until her retirement in July 2015. During the mid-1980s and early 1990s, she also worked with her parents' auction and real estate business and earned her real estate license.

Raised with a strong emphasis on hard work and service, Katie devoted much of her time and talent to Albright United Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member. She was active in United Methodist Women (now United Women in Faith), volunteered in the Northern Prairie District office of the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church, and served as her church's representative on the Board of the Child Development Center of Ponca City. Katie also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Hospice of North Central Oklahoma and served on the Ponca City Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association Board.

An avid reader and lover of the performing arts, Katie regularly attended Ponca Playhouse productions, Music in the Garden performances at Cann Memorial Gardens, and Broadway shows at the Oklahoma City Civic Center. She especially cherished opportunities to attend her three grandchildren's theatrical and musical performances throughout their school years.
Katie is preceded in death by her parents, George Alva and Opal (Musgrave) Brown, and her sister, Patsy Jean (Brown) Martin.

She is survived by her daughter, Ammie Bryant; son-in-law, Jefferson Bryant; three grandchildren, all of Stillwater; two sisters, Judy Ritthaler and her husband Robert, and Linda Stevens and her husband Bill, all of Perry; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Katie's memory to the Ponca City Child Development Center, 702 Grand Ave. E Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
