Michael John Stuckert, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2025, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at the age of 78. He was born on December 6, 1946, at Camp Polk, Louisiana, to John Melvin Stuckert and Lillie Mary (Lewis) Stuckert, who both preceded him in death. A graveside service will be held on October 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation, Stillwater, Oklahoma, is in charge of the arrangements.
Michael, known to many as Mike, spent most of his adult life in Duncan, Oklahoma, where he built a remarkable career and left a lasting legacy in his community. He worked for many years in the oil industry as a logging engineer with Schlumberger, later continuing his work as a consultant well site log analyst. His professionalism, integrity, and deep technical knowledge earned him great respect among colleagues and clients.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike was a passionate advocate for preserving history. He played an enthusiastic role in the founding, operation and maintenance of the Rock Island 905 Railroad Museum in Duncan, Oklahoma - a project that reflected his lifelong love of trains and his fearless approach to life, and generosity.
Mike's interests were as broad as his curiosity about the world. He loved traveling with his family, hunting, fishing, grilling, flying, gardening, and model railroading. Whatever he did, he brought creativity, enthusiasm, and a meticulous attention to detail.
A proud veteran, Mike served his country as a First Lieutenant and Huey helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War. His valor and service were recognized with numerous military honors, including the Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 17 clusters, Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Ribbon, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma, majoring in Mathematics and minoring in History and Physics.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Florence Anita Stuckert; his three children; Michael Gilmore Stuckert (wife Stephanie), and Mischa Smith (husband Patrick) and two granddaughters Peyton and Emma Smith, and Mitchell Stuckert and 2 grandsons, Jude and Caleb Stuckert and former daughter-in-law, Jessica Stuckert.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to the Rock Island 905 Railroad Museum, c\o Dennis Wienck, 4417 Odom Drive, Duncan, Oklahoma, 73533 to continue Mike's legacy of preservation and education.
Mike Stuckert will be remembered for his service, his curiosity, his craftsmanship, and his unwavering love for his family and community. His life was one of purpose, generosity, and adventure - a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
