Obituary

Nolan Kent Flesner, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 23, 2026, at his home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, lasting friendships, and a legacy that will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched, both in and out of the cattle industry.

Nolan was born on February 28, 1949, in Quincy, Illinois, to Meinert and Florine Flesner. He graduated from Central High School in Camp Point, IL and soon began pursuing what would become his lifelong passion: the cattle industry. With the guidance and mentorship of several influential people, Nolan began building a career and reputation that would span decades.

His journey also included serving his country in the United States Navy Reserves during the Vietnam War. As part of the Navy's riverine forces, he patrolled the Mekong Delta aboard river boats taking Navy Seals in and out of the area, an experience that would forever be a part of his life's story.

Nolan spent his life doing what he loved. From raising award-winning show cattle to traveling the country with his daughters, showing cattle, sheep, and horses, he was happiest when he was surrounded by livestock and the people who shared his passion. He had a remarkable eye for recognizing the potential in an animal and was always looking for the next great show prospect.

Throughout his years in the industry, Nolan built a reputation for his knowledge, dedication, and unmistakable attention to detail. He spent countless hours in the show barn and could often be found in the chute clipping calves, determined to get every last little piece of hair just right.

Along the way, he formed many lifelong friendships and meaningful relationships with people who shared his love for the cattle business. Those friendships, built through years of working cattle, traveling show circuits, and countless conversations along the way, meant a great deal to him.

While the cattle industry was a huge part of Nolan's life, his greatest legacy lives on through his family, the friendships he treasured, and the many people who had the privilege of knowing him. His influence reached far beyond the show ring, and the lessons, memories, and relationships he leaves behind will continue for generations.

Nolan is survived by his daughters, Noelle Flesner (Joe Gizdic) and Sacha Pruett (Shane); his brother, Brent Flesner (Lisa); his sisters, Linda Flesner (Doug Waters) and Karen Tenhouse; four grandchildren, Kameron Smithers, Raegan Smithers, Reece Pruett, and Bayley Pruett; along with several nieces and nephews, extended family members, and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Meinert and Florine Flesner. A celebration of Nolan's life will be held at Cattleman's Congress in January 2027 at Oklahoma City. Additional details will be announced as they become available.

In keeping with Nolan’s wishes, memorial contributions will benefit Payne County Oklahoma junior cattle exhibitors in honor of his lifelong commitment to the cattle industry and the next generation of young livestock exhibitors. Details regarding memorial contributions will be announced at a later time.
