Obituary

Norma June Emmons, 92, parted from this earth on October 28, 2025. A Visitation will be held at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater, Oklahoma on November 4, 2025 from 10am to 12pm, a Graveside service will follow at 2pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Born September 26, 1933 in Watonga, OK to James Albert Holaday and Lela Mary Holaday. The middle child of nine brothers and sisters. When she turned six, her mother died, and she and her sisters became wards of the state of Oklahoma and moved into the Oklahoma Baptist home. She had fond memories of her time and enjoyed the reunions that were held in Oklahoma City.

Norma was sponsored by the First Baptist Church in Olive, Ok. She enjoyed their support and visits during the summer. After graduating high school, Norma moved to Stillwater and worked at Stillwater Medical Center. She met Roy at Southside Baptist church and her first thought was, "Why are all those girls mooning over that young kid." She soon found out and began dating him. One day while he was teaching her to drive, she ran off the road crashing into a ditch. Roy always said that Norma married him because she felt guilty about wrecking his car. Norma and Roy were married January 14, 1954. Roy joined the Navy after Roy Jr. was born and Norma adapted to being married to a career military man.

She learned to be resilient when Roy was deployed oversea even dealing with the aftermath of hurricane Camille when we lived in Gulfport, MS. Norma also learned about packing and there was never an empty spot in a box or truck. Tetris wouldn't be a challenge for her. Even after Roy retired, they moved and Norma was right at his side helping as they worked with the youth at church and as he became the pastor of Ralston Bible Church, moved to Regina, Canada to take over a church and then moved back to Oklahoma and worked at Oakhurst Baptist Church and then Sapulpa Bible Church.

She enjoyed singing and participated with church choirs or sang specials. Often Norma and Roy sang duets. Her favorite song was "Blessed Assurance". Eventually Roy and Norma settled in at Town Village Tulsa where her friendly and outgoing spirit made many friends. After Roy died December 7, 2019, she moved out for a short time before returning. Her friends Patsy Nunn from Ralston and best friend Hazel Ellis from Sapulpa moved in and they were often together. Finally when she needed more help, Norma moved in with Roy and his family where she would read to the great grandkids and still sing. 'Blessed Assurance' truly was her favorite song.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Roy Sr., 2 of her sisters, Sue Hindlan and Lena Duerr and her 5 brothers, James Albert Holaday II, Virgil Holaday, Allen Holaday, Alvie Holaday and her parents, James Albert Holaday and Lela Mary Holaday.

Norma is survived by her five children, Roy Emmons, Mark Emmons, Matthew Emmons, My Buchanan and Robin Brashear and their spouses, and her sister Mae Penn. Norma has 17 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.
