Patricia Jo Mayfield, age 89, of Stillwater died September 7, 2026, at her home. A Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. An Inurnment will follow directly after the Mass at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Patricia “Pat” was born to John J. and Isabell (Bigler) Bradley on October 13, 1936, in Hays, Kansas, the eldest of nine children. Patricia began grade school in Great Bend, Kansas, but after the family relocated to Stillwater, Oklahoma, she finished her grade school years attending St. Francis Catholic School where she often walked to school with her uncles Jim and Joe. Her freshman and sophomore years were spent at Sacred Heart Academy, a boarding school in Wichita, Kansas. Her junior year of high school was spent at Stillwater High (located where the Community Center is now) and in 1954, her senior year, she went to Benedictine Heights Convent in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

In September of 1954 she married Chester “Chet” Charles at St. Francis Catholic Church in Stillwater. She and Chet had five children: Wanda, Monica, Charles Lindsay, Lance and Matthew. While Chet was in the Army Reserves the family traveled a lot, living in Ft. Hood, Texas, Ft. Sill Oklahoma and even Germany. During those travels Monica was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and a few years later, Charles Lindsay was also diagnosed with the disease. The next few years featured many trips to the Children’s hospital in Oklahoma City. The family moved back to Stillwater permanently when Chet went to work at Ward Chevrolet. Sadly, Monica passed in 1964, and Charles passed in 1968.

In 1979 Patricia married Junior Lee (Jim) Mayfield in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They enjoyed spending time with family and traveling until Jim’s death in 2004.

Patricia worked for a wide assortment of businesses throughout her life. While her children were preschool age she took in ironing to supplement the family income. She later held positions with the Payne County Election Office, Sunset Memorial Gardens (where she sold burial plots), Earth Energy Resources, Owen Thomas Ford and finally with Seales Collection Agency.

Patricia had many hobbies which included bowling, reading, and crocheting. She also fostered many children over the years, held office positions at St. Francis Altar Society and was on the St. Francis Catholic School Board. Patricia was also a den mother for cub scouts and worked as a precinct worker on election days.

Patricia is preceded in death by her children Monica and Charles; her husband, Jim; siblings David, John Eric, Benedict and Frances and her grandson Charlie.

She is survived by her children: Wanda Cooke and her husband Bill, Lance Charles and his wife Beverly, and Matthew Charles; her siblings: sisters Judy Morgret, Pamelia France and her husband Mike and Mary Bradley; her brother Kent Bradley and his wife Debbie and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Elara Caring Hospice for their kindness and care of Patricia.
